Colts Place Reggie Wayne on IR; Sign CB Jalil Brown

The Colts made a roster move today - and no, it wasn't for a wide receiver, although they did officially place Reggie Wayne on season-ending IR. The team instead signed cornerback Jalil Brown, formerly with the Chiefs.

The Indianapolis Colts today announced a roster move, and no, it wasn't for a wide receiver - yet.  The team announced that they placed wide receiver Reggie Wayne on season-ending injured reserve with a torn ACL and that they signed cornerback Jalil Brown to take his roster spot.

Brown (6-1, 204 pounds) was drafted by the Chiefs in the 4th round of the 2011 draft and he spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons in Kansas City before being released on September 1.  In 29 career games with the Chiefs (starting 2) he made 22 tackles, batted down 2 passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble, and recorded 13 special teams tackles.  He played collegiately at Colorado, which as a fun fact is located in Boulder, Colorado - the hometown of Colts head coach Chuck Pagano.

Reggie Wayne was lost for the season in the fourth quarter of Sunday's huge win over the Broncos when he tried to bring in a low throw from quarterback Andrew Luck.  Chuck Pagano, clearly affected and fighting back tears when he announced it yesterday, said that, "We hate to lose anybody, but this one stings. See, you just don't replace guys like 87."

Reggie Wayne was one of two or three players the Colts absolutely could not afford to lose.  And now he's out for the season.  Jalil Brown may take his roster spot for now, there are surely more roster moves coming to add a receiver.  The good news is that it is the Colts' bye week and Chuck Pagano gave the players the whole week off, so the Colts have time.  They'll look at their options this week and try to do their best at replacing an irreplaceable player.  Jalil Brown was signed today.  There are certainly more roster moves to come.
