Indianapolis Star reporter Stephen holder tweeted this out earlier Tuesday morning:
Just to reinforce, don't expect #Colts to make WR move at today's trade deadline. Pagano: "We decided to stand pat." Not happening— Stephen Holder (@HolderStephen) October 29, 2013
And just like that, all the trade talk and speculation should end. Unless, of course, Chuck Pagano is tossing up a smoke screen, but I don't think that's his style.
As it is right now, we shouldn't expect a trade. Not unless there is a major development behind the scenes.
What we can say with confidence is that the Colts did attempt to make one. For well over a week, they've had only 52 active players on their roster. On Monday, they promoted receiver Griff Whalen from the practice squad, filling out their 53-man roster. Later in the day, they released tackle Xavier Nixon, dropping back down to 52 and suggesting that, yes, a trade was still in the works.
Pagano's on the record comment to Holder seems to suggest that whatever might have been in the works is now dead. Unless the other side comes back at Indy with more favorable terms, no trade.
At least, that's how I read it.
