Much has been made of the Richardson trade and the lack of production he has given the Colts over this 5 week span. I am not going to delve into all the excuses and possible legit reasons he hasn't blown up the NFL landscape with the Colts YET (yes I said yet), as I believe he will finally become comfortable in this system at some point.
Well, my prediction is that now after the bye week T-Rich will run for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns in this prime time Sunday match up against the sinking Houston Texans. And yes, that is my exact prediction, 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. Houston's defense is very good, in fact, I believe they are ranked at the top of the league. Although, the Texans are giving up 122.5 yards a game on the ground which is 28th in the NFL.
While the loss of Reggie Wayne is a giant turd in the punch bowl, not only because of his leadership, but because Reggie caught 35% of the Colts 1st downs. We know what Reggie brought to this team and I don't want to get into that either as it would take this post off subject. But that 35% for 1st downs is huge. And while I think that Luck and the rest of the WR unit will pick up the slack (because Andrew Luck is that good), I think there should be some obvious adjustments they will have to make and that may take a game or 2. How I think the Colts counter this loss is rely heavily on T-Rich on 1st or 2nd down or both to put us in a lot of 3rd and short, manageable situations. T-Rich has had 5 full games and now a bye week to familiarize himself with this offense, oline, and teammates. In this game I believe he silences a lot of critics and shows exactly the kind of running back he is against the 28th rushing defense in the league to the tune of 128 yds and 2 tds.
Folks, I am not giving up on Trent Richardson. But honestly, if he doesn't start to have some big games for us soon then this is going to turn out to be a bad trade. He is a solid back who will get us some very tough yards. But 1st round running backs have to give you more than 3.0 yds a carry. And they have to make IMPACT plays. Again this is why I am predicting Richardson will have a signature game this Sunday.
