First off - please stop using personnel + packages that let the defense know what is coming. We are too young to show our hand and not think the veterans we are playing against will figure it out and simply shut it down. I see this happen way too often.
Main and Most Importantly - Our young QB is a stud but is a young QB. Wayne was a super blanket out there for Luck. It made him feel comfortable. Wayne gave Luck an edge. He is gone and our WR core is bad. We MUST change our game plan. It can done very simply. We have the personnel.
Our double headed backfield is the solution. Both Donald Brown and Trent Richardson have their shortcomings. IMO Donald isnt strong enough and Trent (while fast) isnt quick. That being said there is one thing both of these backs can already do well - and could excel at. That is catching the ball a whole lot more. Stop trying to run it up the middle by sheer power and will alone. I want each of these two stud RBs to catch 5-7 passes each every single game till the superbowl. When you give Trent the ball -vs- a coverage defender....the dude can wreak havok. His 10 longest plays in the NFL all come from passes. He can catch the ball well. Its within his skill set. Donald is awesome after the catch. Its his best skillset. Dude can go yard every single play. We need to give these guys the opportunity to get the catches. What this is gonna do ~~~~~>>>>>>> give Luck his blanket back.
Its going to give Luck the confidence he needs to even think about a SuperBowl. It will also keep those defenses honest. It will make em think twice about shooting backers when we kick out a quick pass to the would be coverage man who blitzed multiple times a game. It would change our offensive dynamic back into our favor. TY can still burn you deep at any second - and utilizing our RBs more in the pass game will create more opportunities for Fleener.
To me this is a no brainer. I want to see it happen this week.
