FIRE PAGANO! FIRE HAMILTON! FIRE GRIGSON! FIRE MANUSKY!
No. But the latter is correct.
It's been some weeks that people are questioning Chuck Pagano and Pep Hamilton as a coach, now Ryan Grigson too, in preparating their players. While Pagano and Hamilton are at fault here, we're not seeing what Greg Manusky is doing too. We often put the blame on Pagano for the defensive failures, but it is Manusky that call the plays on defense. It is Manusky that is calling the plays that doesn't fit the players' specialties. The downfall of Antoine Bethea can be pointed to him, because he hasn't done a good job with Manusky as the DC. He was known as a good coverage safety but now he looks lost out there. It's his defense that is at the bottom 10 of almost every defensive stat. That whole mentality of "stopping the run" has got them into nowhere.
Some people are mad at Ryan Grigson for not fixing some issues, such as the offensive line, well, he did. He signed G Donald Thomas to help the line's most crippled part, but he's injured, and that's no one's fault. But, the pieces are there. It is up to the coaches to smarten up and use them correctly. The most known example is G Mike McGlynn. He's a failure at G but he's a good C. They can't insist on power running with that interior line. They need to look at the film and have the courage to bench the players. Some are so obvious that doesn't even take to watch hours of film. Changes need to be made. Players need to be benched. Opportunities need to be given to other players. If this team wants to get better, if they want to win, then changes have to be made. They can't be with the same lineup over and over again thinking that they will be better this time around. Grigson brought Da'Rick Rogers, Chris Rainey, Khaled Holmes, Dan Herron, Jalil Brown to start with that. Now it's all about whether the coaches will use them. Grigson's additions on defense were average, but them, along with the defense could be better.
So, regarding coaches, he only one that I think that should go is Greg Manusky. At the time of the signing, I talked to a Chargers fan and said that it was a horrible signing, of how the Colts would have one of the worst defensive 3rd down conversions. Well, he seems to be right. And, for Manusky to be fired, or not re-signed by then Chargers GM A.J. Smith, that means something.
Recapping: Why am I saying these things of Manusky? Because there's so many criticism of Pagano, Hamilton and Grigson that I barely see it about Manusky, and I'm starting to see it now. And, Grigson is working to get players into this team, now they need to be used more.
Rant over. Good afternoon.
