Colts Offense Needs a Viable 6-3 WR to Cure Slow Starts

Remember when Peyton Manning was our QB? I want to take you all back to 2007. The Colts were fresh off of a SB victory and in the midst of defending their title, yet came into the season as underdogs because of all of the free agent acquisitions of one Patriots team led by Tom Brady. Welker, Stallworth, and Moss. Out of those three, Moss was the biggest pickup without question. He quickly became Brady's favorite toy, with Welker not far from behind. That trio put up one of the best shows of offense the NFL has seen in a very long time. When Moss went to the Pats, I was saying to myself: "What if Manning had a weapon like that to play with?" I have always wondered what it would be like for Peyton to have that kind Athletic WR to play pitch and catch with. Well, we're seeing glimpses of it now with him in Denver.

For all of the hype and promise surrounding Andrew Luck, I can't help but wonder how much better he would be with a weapon like that. Even without Reggie's injury, the Colts need to start looking for not only his future replacement, but also the depth needed to withstand injury at the WR position. Watching last night's game was one of the most frustrating moments of being a Colts fan that I can ever recall. Seeing dropped pass after dropped pass from some of the most beautiful balls I've see a QB throw was disheartening to say the least. Even though we won the game I was left wondering what it would be like to see Luck with a WR like A.J. Green, or Julio Jones? If DHB could actually catch a damn ball this guy would really be fun to watch. Although he runs like a gazelle, he catches like a turtle.

As we enter the stretch run for playoff position, I am very concerned over the trend of slow starts this team is continuing to find itself in from week to week. I know it's too late to make any kind of moves that would fill the hole left by Reggie Wayne, but if we don't get more consistency from the guys we do have at the WR spot, this team will have another early out from the post season. A.J. Green. Julio Jones. Andrew "The Giant"Johnson (Sigh). One can only dream right?
