Colts WR T.Y. Hilton Continues To Dominate The Texans' DBs

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

Hilton has destroyed Houston's secondary these last three games.

Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton friggin’ OWNS the friggin’ Texans.

In three games against Houston since Hilton was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Florida International product has 14 receptions for 310 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Of course, Houston receiver Andre Johnson is as much a waking nightmare for the Colts and corner Vontae Davis as Hilton is for the Texans and Jonathan Joseph. Andre Johnson has 32 receptions for 521 yards and 4 touchdowns in three games against Davis and the Colts. It seems that, when the Colts and Texans go at it, no one wants to cover Hilton or Johnson.

Per Pro Football Reference, Hilton was the highest graded offensive player for the Colts Sunday night, and it’s easy to see why. He received a +2.7 grade and was on the field for 57 of 63 plays. He caught 7 of the 11 balls thrown at him, with only one being an obvious drop (which I noted here on Twitter).

On the flip side, Darrius Heyward-Bey was truly wretched. He caught one pass for 11 yards, but was targeted 5 times. He drew a pass interference call in the second quarter, which eventually lead to an Adam Vinatieri 30-yard FG. That seems to be all DHB is good for these days: Whining to officials. PFF graded him at -2.4, the worst grade of any Colts WR Sunday night.

Griff Whalen was unimpressive in his pseudo-debut, with two drops and a -0.1 grade.

Overall, when it came time for a player to step up and fill the void left by the injured Reggie Wayne, it was T.Y. Hilton who answered the call.

As Kevin Bowen of noted on his blog, Wayne (who was present in Houston for the game) told Hilton at halftime, when the Colts were down 21-3:

"(Wayne) looked me in the eyes and told me, "You owe me one, man. Just go out there and do what you do best, just go out there and have fun," Hilton said on Monday recalling the story.

At the half, Hilton had just one catch for 6 yards. After halftime, Hilton exploded for 6 catches, 115 yards, and 3 TDs.
