I am a very frustrated fan of the Colts and the NFL. The reversal call last weekend on the BJGE non TD that was reversed seriously compromises the integrity of the game and resulted in my not enjoying the game last Sunday. To make matters worse, the fans deserved an explanation and we didn't get it.
The NFL acknowledged a mistake was made, but the NFL missed the point. The VP of Officiating for the NFL, Dean Blandino, said there wasn't indisputable evidence so the call shouldn't have been reversed. Duh!!
What Mr. Blandino failed to tell us was how can a long-time referee, Jeff Triplette, reverse a call when the referee didn't even review the entire play which covered about 3-4 yards. This is a major blunder and obviously the referee didn't have the mental capacity to understand the situation. The reviews we were shown all clearly showed that BJGE either was tripped or stumbled before he went down short of the end zone.
The call on the field was there was contact which caused the runner to go down.
Why wasn't the contact reviewed?
Why didn't the other members of the crew question Mr. Triplette?
Did Mr. Triplette suddenly go brain dead?
What consequences does Mr. Triplette face for repeatedly screwing up?
We the fans need the answer to this question, because we are partners with the NFL and we spend a lot of money and we deserve to know that the integrity of the game is seriously being taken by the NFL. We don't deserve a BS answer that insults our intelligence.
This reversal call is the most serious blunder I have ever seen in my years watching the NFL. Yes, refereeing is a tough job and mistakes will happen, but usually they are human errors or differences in judgment. The reversal doesn't fit into any of these categories.
It didn't affect the outcome of the game. No one knows and who cares. It affected my enjoyment of watching the game, because the integrity of the game was compromised.
I enjoy watching the NFL, but the officiating needs to be improved.
Thanks for letting me vent.
