Ask A Chiefs Fan - "Are We Having Fun Yet?" Edition

You've got fourteen people in the back of this truck
I've warned you twice and now I'm writing you up."

Hello Indianapolis! The bandwagons are rolling for the Colts as well as the Chiefs this year, and what fun it's been so far. It's been a long, long time since both the Chiefs and Colts were in the playoffs at the same time. It's been 10 years since the last time these these two teams met in the playoffs, a game that featured some guy named Peyton Manning (remember him? of course you do!) and a no-punt game that saw the scoreboard light up like a pinball machine. This year the Chiefs are a lock for the playoffs as a wildcard team (most likely a 5th seed) and the Colts have clinched their division. These two teams will meet this coming weekend at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City for a regular season game, with a rematch down the road a very distinct possibility. Both teams are coming off big wins, with the Chiefs looking as complete of a team as they have all year long the last few weeks.

I said, "Officer, what have I done?"
He smiled and said, "Boy, you're having too much fun."

Alex Smith has done a superb job of keeping the team in focus and positive on the field, Jamaal Charles is having an MVP-caliber year (as is Manning), the Chiefs defense is getting healthy just in time for the playoffs and Kansas City fans are in a very, very happy place right now. How long will happy place last? Nobody knows, but after last year's miserable season (including a death in the "family" for both the Chiefs team and Andy Reid, KC's new Head Coach) this season's historic turnaround couldn't possibly be sweeter or more fun.

Too much fun? What's that mean?
It's like too much money, there's no such thing

Jamaal Charles is playing like a madman possessed (in case you haven't heard, he scored 5 TD's in the Chiefs win at Oakland, 4 of those coming on receptions) and the Chiefs defense looks to be getting back to what they've done most of the year: force the other team to make mistakes. Mind you, nobody is saying that Oakland's QB is on the same level as Andrew Luck, or that the Raiders are on the same level as the Colts, but if the games against the Redskins and Raiders are any indication of what the Chiefs are capable of doing, KC will be a formidable opponent regardless of who they play in the post season. Reid has the team squarely in focus and everyone on the same page, the offense has been scoring more points than any team should need (except that in the NFL, it seems like a team can never score enough points, and that's all too often the case) and even the second-stringers are getting into the act, with RB Knile Davis leaving his mark lately. Secondary newcomers Marcus Cooper and Sean Smith have been invaluable to the Chiefs all season long, as well as usual gang of Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, Tyson Jackson and Brandon Flowers. On offense, Alex Smith has been everything that Matt Cassel never was, Charles is STILL the best RB in the NFL, and even Dwayne Bowe gets in the occasional catch. Sean McGrath and (when healthy) Anthony Fasano at TE and an offensive line that's beginning to come around, with C Rodney Hudson, T Branden Albert, and 1st Overall Draft Pick T Eric Fisher looking better each week.

It's like a girl too pretty, with too much class
Being too lucky, a car too fast
No matter what they say I've done
I ain't never had too much fun

Will it continue? And if so for how long? Which team will rise to this week's challenge, and which team will go on to find future success on the gridiron in post-season play? Time will tell, Colts fans ... in the meantime, send us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses ... wait, never mind, just ask us all the questions about the Chiefs that spring to mind and we'll be around to answer all your questions the best we can (at least other Chiefs fans who actually know football ... I'm just the cheerleader guy). Have fun, play nicely and here's to a clean, injury-free game between the Colts and the Chiefs.

No matter what they say I've done
I ain't never had too much fun
Give me the reins and let me run
'Cause I ain't never had too much fun
