There has been a lot of talk about the GM, coaching staff, and players this year. I suppose that's common at any blog dedicated to a sports team. What I don't find so common here is the way that so many people, including the head writer, are so down on the Colts this year. So I have a question for you, the fans of stampede blue.
How did we get here?
Two years ago we were the worst team in the league. Everyone knows the story of how it happened. The Colts had so much success for so long prior to that season that most of us forgot what a bad season looked like. We were all quickly reminded.
So how did we get to where we are now?
Let's start with the coaching staff:
Pagano- He's been called: overly conservative, unwilling to make adjustments, unable to prepare his team, too nice/loyal to players, a below average talent evaluator, does poorly building coaching staff, I've even seen people say they can tell he is a bad coach just by looking at him on the sideline. Not only has he been called a bad coach, his philosophy is outdated as well, according to Brad. It's obvious many here think he sucks as a HC
Pep- People have said that Pep isn't cut out for the NFL, that his Plays are predictable, that he hasn't done anything to adjust for injuries, that he doesn't understand the NFL, and that he isn't Bruce Arians. Basically, to some people Pep isn't fit to coach a little league team.
Manusky- Oddly enough you don't hear too much about Manusky. I think people that dislike Pagano would rather knock him for the defense's inconsistencies than Manusky. Perhaps, rightfully so.
Now the reigning Executive of the Year, Ryan Grigson- Grigson couldn't have fallen any lower since winning his award last year, according to some. Apparently he followed up his award winning year by not drafting, signing, or trading for even one good player. Every one of his signings have either; been a bust, are overpaid, are injured, or just flat out sucked to begin with.
Which leads me to the players. Sure, Luck is good, Mathis has played well, and Vinatieri is always clutch. The rest of the guys - Grigsons guys - are all terrible (see above paragraph).
So how did we get here?
We're 9-5 and divisional champs. Who is responsible for that?
We've beaten both of the currently top seeded teams. How? Was it all just Luck?
At one point or another this season, the Colts have sat atop of virtually every power ranking there is. How did that happen? Do they just rotate #1 teams with no regard to the teams, their talent, or their record?
So what do you negative folks say? There has been plenty of negativity spread around here lately. Almost every aspect of this team sucks, am I right? Who gets the credit for the accomplishments then? How did this team beat so many great teams early in the season, then lose to so many average ones later on? The coaching staff hasn't changed. The GM hasn't changed. What changed?
Brad, are you taking questions today?
