The Colts and the 2013 Offseason. Who Should They Sign/Trade For 1st? My Pick is Percy Harvin.

As the 2013 offseason approaches, there are plenty of big names out there as well as promising talent to look at from this year's upcoming draft. Add the fact that the Colts also have 43 million in cap space to play with and this year's continuation of "building the Monster" should add plenty of teeth and claws to the frame of last year's beast. O line is probably the 1st thing the front office should address, at least that's what the consensus is from most critics and NFL persnalities, but I have my eye on someone who is less heralded than most of the other big names that are out there. That player is Vikings WR and KR stud Percy Harvin. Yeah I know he's been seen by many as a bit of a loose cannon. Still, he is a very talented and versatile player who can hurt you both on the offense and in the return game. Even though the Colts have an electric water bug in T.Y. Hilton, Harvin is a player who can really help the Luck led Indy offense. Why? Because he's tailor made for the west coast scheme. I like him in the slot better than Hilton because he is a natural fit there. T.Y. was asked by Grigson to "add about 10 lbs of muscle" to his frame for the upcoming season in anticipation of filling the number 2 WR spot currently held by (soon to be gone) Donnie Avery. Avery wasn't exactly the answer there as he dropped too many passes throughout the season. Percy Harvin is a guy who can take a 5 yard slant and turn it into a 60 TD in a hurry.

From what I've read coming out of the Vikings camp, Harvin has been at odds with coach Leslie Frazier regarding the lack of his involvement in the offense. With the best RB in the league behind center there I don't see that changing any time soon. Adrian Peterson is the man in Minnesota and deservedly so. That being said, Harvin needs a change of scenery, preferably with a team that uses it's WRs more than what the Vikings do. That's where the Colts come in. Andrew Luck needs another burner who's an upgrade over Avery. Percy Harvin is the answer there, and the Vikings front office is looking to trade the unhappy but ultra talented wideout. T.Y. Hilton and Percy Harvin together would cause nightmares for opposing defensive coordinators as both players pose the kind of home run threat that forces the opposition to account for them on every play.

Another reason I would like to see the Colts get Harvin is to also keep him from going to the Pats. Harvin is just the kind of player Belechek would go after to replace Wes Welker in an effort to improve their slot position. I personally don't want to see NE add any more toys for Brady to play with. Aren't you guys sick and tired of the "Brady Show?" Even if Bill isn't licking his chops at the idea of adding a player like Harvin, Percy is the kind of player who could do for our offense what Moss did for the Pats when he got there. I have a hunch that the Colts will address the offensive line in either the later rounds of the draft or through the back end of free agency. With the new offense's emphasis on Luck getting rid of the ball faster, the offensive line won't have to block as long and Grigs & company can focus on getting Luck the kind of players who will thrive in the new scheme. I wouldn't doubt Grigson is already looking into the possibility of acquiring Harvin. He's already proven he won't shy away from players who are deemed "headaches" by their former teams. Trading for Vontae Davis is proof of that.
