While the news of Freeney and Collie came out today, shocking none of us, I half expected Jerraud Powers to be mentioned as well. He is just as injury prone as Collie, albeit not as serious of injuries, but he has never played a full season yet. I am wondering if Grigson really plans on resigning him. My opinion would be if there were not plans to resign him, he would have been released today as well. Same could be said for Pat the Punter, but I have always been about 99.99% sure Pat comes back.

With all this being said, if Grigson had no plans for Jerraud, why not release him today as well, he has been here just as long as Collie. I would not expect a spectacle for someone like Donnie Avery or Darius Butler because they have not been apart of the team as long, I still am left to wonder, if Jerraud Powers has no future here, why wasn't he released today?

I will continue on in this post with the assumption Powers is being retained. What does this mean for signing a FA corner? I never expected a big name corner to be signed, too many other areas of need. Surely Grigson realizes using the same corners as last year is not going to cut it. My personal opinion on this is that if Powers is retained, we will sign someone like Mike Jenkins who has potential, but is just with the wrong organization and maybe someone of similar situation as Jenkins. We could also resign Butler as well because many seem to be impressed with him. Starting Corners of Davis and Jenkins with Powers and Butler as slot/reserve guys could be really threatening, not dominating, but threatening as long as we can get a decent pass rush. With the release of Freeney, I fully believe we will go after a big name OLB maybe Kruger or Spencer. Any added help at pass rush will help the secondary as well.

Also, just a side note, I read an article today that Pep Hamilton talked an aful lot about Donnie Avery in his first press conference. Are we seriously going to have to suffer through Avery for another season? I would much rather pay Bowe, or someone of much larger size but this is just my opinion.
