Lane Johnson, a 2013 Offensive Line NFL Draft Prospect, out of Oklahoma is putting up some oustanding results at the Combine, this weekend. His official results are as follows:
40 YD Dash: 4.72s* (2nd best overall (4.71))
Bench Press: 28 reps (T-15th best overall (36))
Vert Jump: 34.0 in.* (2nd best overall (34.5))
Broad Jump: 9 ft. 10 in.* (best overall)
3 Cone Drill: 7.31s* (2nd best overall (7.26))
20 Yard Shuffle: 4.52s* (5th best overall))

Out of around 60 of the top offensive line prospects being tested at the combine, Johnson is obviously working hard to turn some heads and raise his draft stock. If these numbers mean anything, he could easily be one of the first OL taken this year. He has a lot of athleticism, great size at 6'6" and 303 lbs, has remained healthy, and stayed consistent at both the left and right side of the ball. His one red flag is his limited experience, as he is a converted TE and moved to OL the last two seasons. Certainly it takes a lot more than great non-padded, wide open, Combine results to make a good player in the NFL, but he has proven his talent with the pass-heavy Sooners the last couple of years.
As of right now, he is projected to be taken in the middle of the 1st round. To be honest, this post was done more from being impressed with how athletic and talented Johnson is proving he is, and also the excitement the Combine and Draft are making me as a Colts fan. The Colts certainly have a lot of needs this year on the defensive side of the ball, but if Lane Johnson falls to them at #24, they should thank their lucky stars, write his name down, and then get him nice and comfy protecting Andrew Luck for many years at the Right Tackle position.
Thought on Lane? Anybody following the Combine results and see some players or interest? Love to hear your thoughts!
