Every year in the draft, there are some players selected in the second and third rounds that fans look at and say "WHO?". DJ Hayden will probably be one of those players. Hayden is is a talented and speedy corner that can play in every scheme. This past year, Hayden was performing like a first round pick for Houston for the first nine games of the season. Then, in practice, Hayden had an agonizingly unfortunate incident where one of his cardiac veins burst when he attempted a tackle. Thankfully, Hayden survived the incident and has worked since then to get back in football shape. However, he was not able to participate in the combine or the senior bowl.
In his pro day last week, Hayden showed scouts his athletic prowess by running a 4.33 and then a 4.40 on his second attempt while pulling his hamstring! Throughout his career, Hayden showed the ability to be a starting corner in the NFL, even when he played against top competition. In his match up against Quinton Patton, a projected 2nd round receiver, Hayden shut him down and only allowed 4 catches for a minimal 9 yards per catch.
Although the Colts have added depth to the secondary, you can never have enough corners. In case of injury to one of the top guys (which seems like a virtual lock every year), how great would it be to have someone like Hayden step in and produce?
What do you think?
