Every year I get excited for the draft. My brain knows that a lot of these players will never make much of an impact on the field, but in my heart that 6th round CB is an absolute steal who has all the physical tools and will be a stud in three years.
But I love all the mocks, the analyzing, the highlight films and analyzing the Colts needs. Last year's draft was not much of a surprise. I figured it would be all offense as we had very little on that side of the ball, and it was worth it to protect the investment in Luck.
This year though we don't have the luxury of knowing what our first pick will be. Furthermore, the team needs are not nearly as well defined. A lot of players have been signed in FA that we've never seen play week in and week out. I thought CAeverday did an excellent job in his fanpost explaining the Colt's needs.
To complicate matters further, this is a draft that seems to be thin at the top, but with a lot of mid-tier talent. What I think will happen is that a player that the Colt's brass covets will fall to us at 24. There will be no trading down, instead, Grigson will do a happy dance. A couple examples are D.J. Fluker (Don Banks latest mock draft), Barkevious Mingo (Peter Schrager's latest mock draft), Jarvis Jones (can't remember, but seen fall to the Colt's a couple times), or DeAndre Hopkins (thanks CAeverday).
However, it just makes it all more exciting and can't wait to see how it all plays out.
