Could Antoine Bethea Be Used as Trade Bait?

First off before I get chased out of here with pitch forks and torches let me say this. I think Antoine Bethea is a fine safety. A respected Colt and as durable and dependable as they come. I have loved watching him play for the Horse Shoe.

Now let me point out that I am not a fan of trading back into the draft. This is my personal preference and I think enough of you have seen me sing this song enough on here.

Now lets consider that there is a plethora of safety needy teams this year and Bethea is as quality and dependable a safety as they come and honestly when I look at our roster he is really the only player that other teams would covet and we could possibly move. Also, Bethea is in the last year of his contract and the front office (as far as we know) have yet to approach him for an extension. So what I am saying is, could we get some value out of Antoine Bethea now since he will most likely be moving on after the season? Could we move up in round 1 if say a certain player falls to the mid to late teens and package Bethea in a trade?

Take emotion out of the equation for a minute and think about it. Yes we would be losing a quality safety, a sure tackler and coverage guy but, we now have a thumper back there in Landry. This defense needs a ball hawk center fielder to play opposite of him and as good as Bethea has been in alot of areas he has never been a ball hawk. His best year I think he had 3 picks if Im correct. The roster is getting younger by the month when you consider last years draft, free agency and this years draft. Alot of holes were fixed in free agency with solid starters but no game changers were added to the roster. I dont think any safety's in this years draft class are worth trading up for and giving up Bethea and that includes Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro. So if we were to trade up I doubt it would be for a safety, it would be at another position. When you consider that the Cowboys, Titans, Jets, to name a few are in need of a safety and publicly stating they wouldnt mind trading down Bethea could be the piece of the puzzle and ammunition we would need to move up and grab one of the few elite talents in this draft.

I am not standing on a table screaming and yelling for this to play out. But as we approach the draft and if Grigson is in love with a player and really wants him, this could be a viable option. Especially if we were to aquire a 5th-6th rd pick in the package. Food for thought. Go ahead and tear me to pieces!
