Colts general manager Ryan Grigson does not seem to be the kind of person who will just draft or sign a player and plug him in to a spot. Competition seems to warrant who plays and who doesn't. "Steel sharpens steels," as head coach Chuck Pagano often says.
After selecting offensive guard Hugh Thornton with the 86th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Grigson told the media that he wants to create "a cauldron of competition" along the offensive line.
Grigson on the offensive line additions: "We want to create a cauldron of competition. True champions like that type of environment."

#Colts Grigson: Feel really good about our offensive line. Have a lot of capable players. But...you can never have enough good big men.

Regarding Thornton specifically, Grigson said:
#Colts Grigson: Represents all the traits that you could want at the guard spot. Size, power, aggression, constant finish. Sets the tone.

Look for Thornton to possibly push Joe Reitz or Mike McGlynn for the starting left guard spot on the offensive line.
