2013 Draft: Colts Trade Up With Browns, Select DT Montori Hughes With 139th Pick

Just as he did in last year's draft, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has traded up in the draft, sending a 2014 4th round pick to the Browns in exchange for the 139th overall pick in this year's draft. With that pick, Indianapolis selected nose tackle Montori Hughes, Tennessee-Martin.

This is a very interesting pick. Hughes is a 6'4, 329 lb. defensive tackle who can also play the nose guard position. Indianapolis used a 5th round selection on Alabama nose tackle Josh Chapman last year, but Chapman never played a down in 2012 because of a knee injury he'd sustained during the 2011 college football season. Chapman says he's healthy now, and he's participating fully in the team's voluntary workouts.

However, trading up for Hughes suggests that Grigson is not completely confident in the health of Chapman and/or veteran defensive tackle Brandon McKinney. McKinney suffered a knee injury during training camp last year, and was placed on Injured Reserve.

Hughes played at Tennessee-Martin last year, but he was originally recruited by Tennessee. However, because of academic issues at Tennessee, he was dismissed in 2011. Hughes transfered to Tennessee-Martin for his junior and senior seasons.

Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation says Hughes has loads of talent, but comes with character concerns.
