Advanced stats noted that Sheppard made 80% of tackles expected of him from his position (ranking 67 of all LBs). Hughes on, the other hand, only stopped 37% (ranking 141). In every other efficiency category, Sheppard is simply better than Hughes (according to the advanced stat site. To put into perspective how bad Hughes is against the run, L. Kuechly had approximately four times the amount of 'expected' tackles (156%)!!
For a Colt run defense that was lackluster in 2012, and with Foster, MJD and CJ pounding the rock against us in 2013, I'm really starting to like the trade.
Note to Buffalo: Do not put Jerry Hughes on the field on first and second downs.
I give this trade an A- from what I've researched- the stats point to an upgrade (stats are only stats though)..
