Colts Signed UDFA Rick Schmeig

Taking the place of the hotly debated A.Q. Shipley (a favorite of mine as a PSU student) is Center Rick Schmeig out of Purdue. The 6'3" ,320 lb lineman is about the same scale as Holmes but could prove to be an asset to the Colts through their practice squad as A.Q. did. Notably his best game in 2012 came against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he performed better than I thought he could with the horrid overall offense that is the Boilermakers.

As a leader of the Purdue offense, his best season came in 2011 where he helped the "Boilers" in the run game at the RG and then C positions. This showcases his skills at different areas on the O-line and you can never justify having some back up lineman available in case the injury bug comes around. I don't think he makes the team but practice squad players can turn into the next A.Q.

Schmeig was also a leader at Purdue where the run game is emphasized and with our new offense its where we need to strengthen the OL, but I don't see him making the team over Cleary right now. Your opinions?
