Note: If you have not read the original "Jersey Numbers and the Depth Chart," dated April 28, you may wish to do so before reading this post. The Empire Strikes Back would be somewhat confusing if you had never seen Star Wars.
According to Brad Wells of stampedeblue.com, the Colts have released a list of jersey numbers to be worn (at least initially) by the rookie draft class of 2013. In the article called "Colts Training Camp Returns to Anderson University," Wells gives the following information:
" In addition to the Colts camp news, the team has announced the numbers that will be worn by the 2013 draft class:
Bjoern Werner, OLB : 92
Hugh Thornton, OG : 69
Khaled Holmes, OC :56
Montori Hughes, NT: 73
Kerwynn Williams, RB: 37
John Boyett, SS: 42
Justice Cunningham, TE: 86."
In addition to the numbers on this chart, Marshay Green, Lawrence Guy, and (surprisingly) Delone Carter had their numbers doubled by UDFAs (Colts.com). Now, that might be much ado about nothing, as Green, Guy, and Carter could all make the team. In that case, the other guys would simply pick new numbers if they made the team (or practice squad). But I said it before and I'll say it again...no player holding a high position on the depth chart has ever had his number doubled.
One final note: The Colts gave Khaled Holmes a number in the 50s. According to league rules, a center can wear a number in the 50s, but a guard cannot. Thus, the Colts see him as a center and center only...at least for now.
