With Shipley traded, it looks like Satele maintains his roster spot/starting job.

A Q Shipley was traded for a conditional draft pick to the Baltimore Ravens. This is troubling news for Colts fans. Shipley did an admirable job filling in for Satele when he was injured last year. He played better in many people's eyes than Satele did, and did so at a much cheeper salary. What this signals to me is the FO is not ready to give up on Satele. Whether they chaulk last year up to a new situation, injuries or just a down year, they believe enough in him to cut arguably a better player.

This is disturbing because it shows a reluctance to admit a mistake and move on. This was a trait that was prominant in the Polian era. Satele may be a surprise and have a good year. He may also have another bad year that puts pressure on Holmes to come in and produce immediately as a rookie. I'm sure the hope is that Holmes pushes Satele out of a job or at least pushes him to perform better. I guess the only upside to this is we have a chance to get something in return instead of just cutting someone.
