As you might remember a couple of years back there was a three headed monster of a backfield in New York that was Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, and Ahmad Bradshaw. The first thought that came to my head when I heard Bradshaw was meeting with the Colts was something along the lines of "YESSSSSS, BRING THE FIRE TO INDY" and then I thought about the impact he could have on our backfield and maybe even reunite his old band in a new way.
Bringing in Bradshaw would mean that someone would be on their way out, and after the way Vick Ballard played last year we can all agree that he isn't the odd man out which made me think that Donald might be the poor victim. Kerwynn Williams has been described as a scat back with great speed, much like our own Mr. Brown. However I can see where the Colts take a draft and stash policy to where they will keep Kerwynn around the team as a return man but practice him quite a bit at runningback where he will eventually take the spot of the "Wind" back for Donald Brown.
In the original Earth, Wind and Fire Brandon Jacobs played the role of the big bruising "Earth" back. The only back on the Colts roster that can be "compared" to Jacobs is Delone Carter who was the short yardage back last year. However with some of the writings on the wall, pointed out by Brad, shows is that my first thought is wrong and that Carter is the back that could be cut which leaves in quite the predicament of who will be the bruiser because Williams and Brown aren't big enough and Ballard doesn't have the power yet, which leads me to believe that this is the role that Bradshaw can field. Bradshaw can do a lot of things and I believe being a sort of tough back would be an awesome role for him to play on this team.
This all leads to the Fire back now, when I think of this back it needs a player that can do a bit of everything, that is why the original Fire was Bradshaw. I think this is a role perfect for Ballard because he can do so much. He is shifty with his feet, runs down hill, and is a presence in the passing game (ask the Titans about that one) but all in all Ballard has the ability to be a break out player in a couple of years if Bradshaw does ink with the Colts and helps teach him a few things.
All in all this team is coming together amazingly and it just makes me smile and want to cry about how beautiful it is, something special is happening in Indianapolis, and its going to be around for a while, get excited.
