Who should be the Featured TE in the Colts Offense this season. With the injuries to Fleener last season we only got a small sample of what he can become for our offense. In Feeners absence we got a chance to see Allen take the number 1 TE role and he did better than expected. With the complete Stanford offense coming to Indy this season and Fleener healthy will this put Allen on the back burner? Allen was the "Heath Miller" of our system last year and was very productive. In Peps system at Stanford Fleener snagged 96 balls for 1500 plus yards and 18 TDs in his career with Pep.
I know the NFL is becoming a 2 TE league, but one will see a drop in production this season WHO WILL IT BE?
Lets look at what we need at the TE position this season. I think the play-action game will be big this season for the colts. Adding Bradshaw and the development of Ballard and our improved O-Line we will run it well and PA will be a big part of our O. Both Fleener and Allen will excel at getting open up the seem and behind the line backer level. Who can beat 1 on 1 man coverage? I give this to Allen, he seem to be more athletic than Fleener and can beat LBs and smaller DBs with his size and speed and physicality.
I also believe that Allen is a better run blocker. That is going to be very important. They don't have Pads on in Camp, so i cant see if Fleener has improved. Who ever leaves camp the better blocker will have the upper had on who get the majority of the snaps at the featured guy.
The last thing i think will matter is chemistry, and who can be a consistent safety outlet for Luck on 3rd down and when he is on the move. Obviously Fleener had the upper had with this coming into their rookie seasons. With Fleener being out of the lineup last year allowed Allen to build solid chemistry with luck. At this point i don't know who should be the quote "#1" TE. This problem if you can call it that is a good one to have for My Colts.
