BcB's Colts report

I am not worrying yet, but there are a lot of things going on that hardly anyone is talking about that I feel is worth mentioning.

1. Andrew Luck has not looked that great thus far. Everything I have read about Andrew Luck in this new offense is underwhelming. He is throwing INTS a lot more regularly than TDs and this is shocking considering its the same offense he ran in college. From the beginning I had my doubts about a college coordinator with no pro experience at that position coming to our team and replacing one of the best offensive NFL minds of our time... this is why. I'm not saying he's a bad QB but the words 'overhyped' and 'overrated' keep resonating in my mind. If he doesn't tear it up under this offense I find it hard to imagine another that he would be better suited for. Scary.

2. Coby Fleener is a bust. He has struggled to stay healthy thus far and had an even more difficult time of it trying to stay relevant in this offense. He had one decent game last year and it seemed that after week 1 the team went to him less than less. People blamed Arians' scheme on why he was so little used, but those people ignore the fact that Heath Miller was ALWAYS a big part of Arians' offenses in Pittsburgh. When OC Pep Hamilton made the comment this offseason that he had never seen Fleener have a better practice in college, that was kind of a stunning comment to hear. When you add this to the fact that Coby cannot block and isn't that reliable of a receiver, it starts to become apparent that that team may be better off without him, and he's only had 3 games in his career where he's registered more than 2 catches.

3. Anthony Costanzo is not as good as advertised. I think most Colts fans will admit that by the end of his tenure here that Bill Polian had lost his touch when it came to drafting. Jerry Hughes was jettisoned recently based on that reasoning, but it seems that Anthony Costanzo repeatedly gets and continues to get passes. The Mario Williams play shows that this guy will never be able to block the elite DEs in this league. Mario Williams was not in the top 10 in sacks last year, but he blew past Anthony like Costanzo was still in college. This is not a good sign for the guy that's supposed to ANCHOR our offensive line and protect our QB. If this team is going to be any better and give Andrew Luck more time, I think we have to get rid of this soft, slender, offensive lineman.

4. Bjoern Werner is looking a lot like Jerry Hughes so far. When he was drafted there was a lot of talk of him starting alongside Mathis at outside linebacker. As camp has progressed he is firmly seated behind Mathis (a guy whose only been a linebacker for one year) and Walden (who everyone thinks is horrible. Our offensive line is not the best by far in the league, but the fact that we've not seen him put pressure consistently on QBs in training camp and OTAs or look well in coverage doesn't bode well for his prospects of helping the team this year. It doesn't help that he was too hurt to play in his first preseason game, and that all the other DE's taken before him looked good in preseason action have actually ALREADY MADE IMPACTS.
