Has anyone considered that it's highly possible we did indeed misuse the talent of Jerry Hughes? This week Hughes had a tremendous game for the Buffalo Bills notching 4 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble in limited time. I realize it's just one preseason game but for a long time now I've seen a lot of posts from Brad Wells bashing the selection of Jerry Hughes. Many people did the same thing with Tim Jennings when he was here. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with occasionally pointing out the disappointment of selecting a player in one of the first 2-3 rounds and not see him live up to potential. However, the constant bashing of Jerry Hughes, even while he is not on the team, is ridiculous. I bring this up because not too long ago Brad Wells decided to continue piling on Jerry Hughes even after he was traded from the team. I wouldn't even be writing about a former player right now were it not for Wells' previously referred to article. I wonder if an article will ever be written that speaks to how the Colts may have misused Hughes. I consider myself a Hughes fan because I liked him at TCU and believe he was getting better with more playing time during his short time with the Colts. I do believe he was vilified by some people for missing a special teams play in the Jets playoff game in 2010. Considering he was a rookie, I think a little grace should have been given to him. Hell, it's insane to bash Hughes for the Colts losing that game when there are so many factors that led to the loss that happened before the gaff on special teams was even made. In any case, I just thought to provide some balance for Hughes here after he had such a great game for the Bills.
