My Take on Preseason Game #2 vs. the Giants

  1. Very encouraging, bounce back effort overall.
  2. I was going to do a post on Erik Walden after the first preseason game (and I still might) but I think he is going to be special for us; and no I'm not basing this off of the sack he had in last night's game (albeit a great moment for him). I was neither on the Walden bandwagon nor on the "I hate Walden" train. I wanted to watch him objectively and make my opinion. I did think all of the talk about "setting the edge" was a bit much, even though I know the importance of it. However, over the first two games, Walden really showed me his value at that position.
  3. Coby is really struggling. I'm wondering if the lights of actual games are getting to him. I still think he could have a break out season, but he needs a good game 3.
  4. Rayford should make the team. I'm eager to see him get some reps with the first team to see where he's at.
  5. I'm really pleased with our secondary play. I think they are as good as advertised and maybe better.
  6. Lawrence Sidbury. Nobody is talking about him; good or bad. To me, that's a bad sign for him. I had high hopes for him as a pass rusher and he's being out-shined by Walden, Rayford and others. I amgoing to be watching 56 very carefully on Saturday.
  7. T.Y. is officially so good we probably should quit writing about it because it's the norm.
  8. The screen game with DHB was looking really good. I've never been a huge fan of the standard, "iso" screen play, but DHB got monster chunks of yardage for us. DHB also looked good on his routes.
  9. Our coverage teams need to get better fast. They look awful.
  10. Cleary looked awful to me. The O-Line looks better than last year, but not much better.
  11. Bjoern impressed me with his run defense and coverage skills, along with his rushing ability. Even on the play where he got blown up, he still set the edge, took a blocker out of the play and forced the RB back inside.
  12. It thought Donald Brown played a good game Sunday. I've not been a huge fan of Brown's, but Brown as a #3 back is not a bad thing at all. I think Carter gets cut and we'll have to wait and see about Williams.
  13. Marshay Green was everywhere yesterday. Let's see if that an exception or the rule for him on Saturday. I can see the Colts keep him and use him like they used Josh Gordy last year -- a blitzing DB.
  14. Chandler Harnish needs to be better.
