We spend way too much time on this blog arguing with each other, yelling at trolls, and making fun of Brad still living in his mom's basement. We don't have actually have good laughs and truly enjoy being Colts fans. Stories from when we were children are the best of Colts stories because we didn't know what deficiencies our defense or offense had. We didn't know that the GM needed to be fired. We just watched the game cause we loved it and cause we were rooting for the Colts hoping for a win. For me, that's how it was. Being a Colts fan as a child was the best because I wasn't stressing over the team over things like I do now ie pass rush problems and protecting Andrew Luck.
So I decided to make this article of how everyone here became Colts fans to actually bring together this very argumentove community here at Stampede Blue. My story is actually quite funny, and I'm looking forward to see how your guys' stories come out in the comments section.
I was 7 years old visiting my aunt and cousins with my mom and sister in Tampa Bay in 1998. My cousin was about 13 so there was a considerable age difference between us. I thought he was so much cooler than me because he was older and had all these things I didn't have like a walkman, game consoles, and a boom box. I'll never forget it when he pulled out the first and original PlayStation asking me if I wanted to play Madden 98. Of course, he picked the Buccanneers since he's from Tampa. I didn't know how to operate the "Pick a Team" menu so he took my controller and looks at me and says, "Since you're from Indiana, your favorite team is the Colts right?" I looked at him not knowing what the hell the kid was talking about, I just wanted to be cool like him so I said "yes."
Now, yes I'm from Indiana, but this was a distant cousin of mine. In the Middle Eastern culture, you meet people you have no idea how their related to you. You just know their related to you. All he knew about me was that I was from Indiana. He did not know that I was from Northwest Indiana where everyone are Bears fans. And looking back at that I'm glad he didn't know.
Anyway, I got to play Madden 98 with my cousin and started to get the hang of the game pretty quickly. All I did was throw the ball to Marvin and run with Faulk. After about the third game we played, I was beginning to beat my cousin consistently. He got mad and didn't wanna play anymore. When I came back to Indiana, I started watching Colts games whenever they were on TV which wasn't much, but I loved watching them. I loved seeing Peyton Manning do what he did as a rookie! They didn't win too many games, but they were still fun to watch. Coincidentally, my first year of being a fan was Manning's rookie season. I kept following the Colts ever since, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
I'm forever grateful of my cousin not knowing where in Indiana I was from and by him picking the Colts for me in Madden 98 because if that didn't happen, I'd probably be on the Bears SB Nation blog hoping Marc Trestman would turn Jay Cutler and the franchise around which doesn't sound too appealing. Looking forward to some of your stories of how you became Colts fans in the comments section. GO COLTS!!!
