Ready for a 50-team NFL? An expansion and realignment plan.

Add expansion teams in Hartford, New Jersey, Columbus, Norfolk, Birmingham, Louisville, Orlando, Mexico City, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Albuquerque, Omaha, Las Vegas, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Anaheim and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, the Jets move to Brooklyn.

Rosters would be expanded from 53 to 60, with 50 active per game, plus 15-man practice squads. Off-season rosters would be expanded from 90 to 100. The college draft would be reduced to 5 rounds. The league would be realigned into 10 divisions of 5 teams each, no more conferences.

Atlantic Division: Brooklyn, Hartford, New England, New Jersey and New York.

Northeast Division: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburgh.

Capital Division: Baltimore, Carolina, Norfolk, Philadelphia and Washington.

Metro Division: Atlanta, Birmingham, Louisville, Saint Louis and Tennessee.

Southeast Division: Jacksonville, Miami, New Orleans, Orlando and Tampa Bay.

Central Division: Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Indianapolis and Minnesota.

Southwest Division: Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, Oklahoma City and San Antonio.

Mountain Division: Albuquerque, Arizona, Denver, Kansas City and Omaha.

Northwest Division: Las Vegas, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City and Seattle.

Pacific Division: Anaheim, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco.

An 18-game regular season, played during a 20 week period, with 2 bye weeks per team, includes home and road games vs. each division opponent = 8 games + 1 game vs. each team in 2 other divisions = 10 games. Each team would play the entire league every 5 seasons, including home and road every 9 seasons. The pre-season would be reduced to 3 games, including 1 home + 1 road + 1 neutral site, including the Hall of Fame game and international sites.

A 22-team playoff field would include 10 division winners ( seeded 1 thru 10 ) plus 12 wild cards ( seeded 11 thru 22, independent of division affiliation ). Since conferences are no longer in effect, any 2 teams, even from the same division, could meet in the Super Bowl, while any 3 divisions could monopolize all of the wild cards. The Pro Bowl would be eliminated. The Super Bowl would never be played any later than February 27th.
