So now that all the dust has settled it is now time to look at what the T Rich trade could mean, we currently have 4 runningbacks on the roster on a team that is desperate need of any sort of extra lineman, the only question is who, if any of the runningbacks will be shipped out/dropped/signed to PS. I will be looking at all 4 we have and will share my opinion.
Ahmad Bradshaw: There is no doubt that he will remain on the roster but for the sake of the article I will be looking at him and T Rich in the same sense as the others. What Ahmad does best is being a bowling ball with the rock in his hands and pass block, but what the thing that is going against him is his age and how much wear and tear he has gained over his career. There is no doubt that he is an amazing back and should be the Colts starting back this week against the Niners but the question is how long until we go with T Rich.
Trent Richardson: After watching him destroy my college in football I am glad to say that I like T Rich now. T Rich is probably our most well rounded back on the roster, he has a little shake, and a lot of power with decent speed to hit holes and keep going. He will eventually push for the starting back in time but will be used to spell Ahmad for a while. I was trying to find his overall pass blocking grade to see how he measured up but failed, one of you might be able to find that faster than I can (shitty college apartment internet connection and all) but I think he will definitely be better than Donald "I Really Hate Pass Blocking" Brown.
Speaking of which here is my take on Donald Brown: Our scat back and has been labeled with the bust title on here and other sites and the sad thing is that it is very true. I remember watching the draft with all my friends after school and when they announced we took Donald Brown I just stared at disbelief at the TV, I had no clue why we drafted a runningback so early in the draft. Being taken in the 1st round put a lot of pressure on Brown, unfortunately he never looked like the pick he was and although when he gets out in space he looks good the one thing that we need him to do once every blue moon he fails at, miserably. Pass blocking is the biggest concern with Brown, he can't read blitz schemes and continues to look like a joke.
Kerwynn Williams: Taken in the 7th round this past draft Williams was a prospect that intrigued me, I still have no clue why we drafted him (much like I felt with Brown) but I think his upside is that he can be used on kick returns and that he is a slightly smaller and younger version of Brown that will be used primarily on special teams and garbage time, but regardless this is a back that I like.
In closing, we have a pretty deep rotation of runningbacks, but I think to make room for another lineman we might need to let one of these guys go. I personally think we will be able to swing a deal for Donald Brown which would be the best opportunity for us to get something of value in return. Next year when Vick Ballard comes back then it will make Williams the odd man out but in general what goes on from here will be interesting.
