Four. That is the total number of outside linebackers the Colts have interviewed at the Senior Bowl. Now, I would not consider this that big of a sign if they had interviewed two, plus a guard like Gabe Jackson or a safety like Deone Buccannon. But the truth of the matter is, outside of a late round running back and late round tight end, the Colts have only interviewed the following (according to Walter Football):
Marcus Smith, OLB, Louisville
Jeremiah Attouchu, OLB, Georgia Tech
Adrian Hubbard, OLB, Alabama
Michael Sam, OLB, Missouri
It does not take Sherlockian detective skills to infer that the Colts are not satisfied with the future of the pass rush. Robert Mathis, for all his amazingness, is getting older. Draft gurus are all over the board on Hubbard, but the other three consistently have second or third round grades. To think the Colts want to spend one of their first two picks on OLB is fine with me, but there are a myriad of other needs on this team for 2014.I know we have $35 million to spend in free agency, but some of our needs have weak free agent classes this year.
So,given the other needs on this team, is OLB worth one of our top two picks? I encourage your thoughts.
