Da'Rick Rogers has the raw talent and physical attributes to dominate in this league. Discipline has always been the question with this young kid. He has done a solid job of turning a corner from what was happening in college to now possibly being a cornerstone of the Colts offense. Da'Rick has been keeping his nose clean, and staying focused on football. Recently Rogers had some comments about his progress and PFT wrote and article about it. The link is below.
DA'Rick states that he believes that "he has showed the Colts that they can trust him". Before I continue I do want to give him some props. Rogers has done a good job, scratch that, a great job of staying focused and working hard. All reports from the staff have indicated nothing but that. Now onto what concerns me. This was Da'Ricks rookie season. He had to at all cost keep his image clean to show teams he isn't a punk anymore and all that garbage is behind him, and he has done that. But I hope this isn't just pretending, so to speak, of being not only a good player but a solid citizen. During the season players don't have a lot of time to be focused on much else besides football, although plenty of players find a way to screw up during a season. The regimen of and schedule and also the franchise having their thumb on pretty much everything they do keeps players from doing knuckleheaded shenanigans. The true test comes in an off-season when players are away from that schedule and discipline. Also take into account Rogers hasn't made any real money yet due to him being a udfa. Will we see the same focus coming back from an off-season? Will he stay clean after he makes a little money from a new contract? I am giving him the benefit of the doubt because he has repaired his image to an extent. One season doesn't tell the whole story though. This doesn't mean trouble is yet to come in the future. He NEEDS to continue this throughout his career. He needs to keep proving himself to the Colts. While also fixing his personal problems he will need to start earning his keep.
These next couple seasons and off seasons are crucial for Da'Rick. As a player and as a human being. Here's to hoping he continues on this path! Good luck, we are all rooting for you!
