A couple days ago I posted:
A lot of people are talking about the pending "Cap Nightmare" when Luck, Fleener, Allen, and TY are up for new contracts. Few people are talking about what the cap will be in 2016. This year alone, the cap is going to jump at least $9 million. The new TV contracts take effect this year. As part of the new CBA, the players get 50% of the revenue in the form of the following year’s salary cap. That means the 2015 cap is going to be even higher than $132m. Some estimates I have read say it will go up another $5m.
The NFL is obviously growing in revenue and that will help the Colts keep their young core. We will also have the Mathis & Wayne contracts off the books. Satele this year, Toler probably next year, and Cherilus in 2016.
I think the Colts will be able to handle the 2016 "Cap Nightmare" just fine.
Seems like I underestimated the numbers. Adam Schefter tweeted this today....
Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source
The Colts should have plenty of money to address our FA needs now.
Take Maclin off our list for a 1 year deal as he just signed a 1 year deal with the Eagles.
