It would appear that Sam Shields (one of the apparent possible replacements should V. Davis be reluctant to sign a deal for an amount WE feel he should) has resigned with the Packers. The deal is a 4 year one, worth about 39 million, averaging out to 9.75 million a year. So much for signing V. Davis for less than 7 million a year!
Shields has been VERY good in patches for Green Bay (does that sound like someone in Indy?), but he hasn't always been able to get on the field (14 games in 2013, 10 in 2012). Even with that, GB - one of the stingiest franchises when it comes to FA (apart from that ridiculous offer to Raji) - signed him up.
I think there is almost no way that Davis now signs for anything less than 9 million/year. As for signing someone else, I am now not sure who we will get for 6-7 million a year. Maybe Tarell Brown?
