Mocking the Draft's Dan Kadar has one of the best mock draft guessing records of anyone on the Internets. So, when Dan mocks, I listen:
59. Indianapolis Colts: Brandon Thomas, G/OT, Clemson
Despite being the 59th pick in this draft, Thomas to the Colts was one of the easier selections to make. Indianapolis' glaring need is at interior offensive line help, and Thomas looks like a perfect candidate to move inside from left tackle.
OK, I know a selection like this makes sense on face value. The interior of the Colts' offensive line was hot garbage last year, and management's idea of fixing this issue was basically to let starters Samson Satele and Mike McGlynn walk while also hoping that Donald Thomas returns from injury and 2013 third round pick Hugh Thornton and 2013 fourth round pick Khaled Holmes develop.
Not the greatest plan in the world, I admit. Thus, taking an interior player here makes sense.
That said, since this is their plan, why draft another interior lineman? With glaring needs in the secondary, pass rusher, and nose tackle, taking another guard here seems unlikely.
Meanwhile, Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN has the Colts going a different route at pick No. 59 with his most recent mock (via ESPN Insider):
59. Indianapolis Colts | *Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU
Landry isn't a burner, but he has some of the best hands in the draft and will make plays in traffic. The Colts gave away their first-rounder and need this pick to work out.
