Here's a quick recap of picks 16 through 20 in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
|1||16||Dallas Cowboys||Zach Martin||OL||Notre Dame|
|1||17||Baltimore Ravens||C.J. Mosley||ILB||Alabama|
|1||20||New Orleans Saints||Brandin Cooks||WR||Oregon State|
My general thoughts:
Cowboys - BOOOOOOO!!!! The whole NFL world wanted Jerry to pick Johnny Football, well everyone that's not a Cowboys fan. Martin is an excellent selection. He's easily the most versatile offensive lineman in this draft. He can play either tackle spot or slide in and play guard if necessary. I really, really like this pick for Dallas, even though I don't really like the Cowboys.
Ravens - I really think this is a great pick for Baltimore. They desperately needed a replacement at ILB after Ray Lewis retired. I am surprised they didn't go safety here though but Mosley is a heck of a football player. He does have some significant injury concerns though as he was constantly nicked up at Alabama. This is a great selection fro the Ravens though.
Jets - I absolutely LOVE this pick. Pryor is my favorite safety in this draft. He can hit and cover as good if not better than any other safety in the draft. He has excellent range and the ball skills to make quarterbacks think twice about throwing to his side. He's also not afraid to come into the box and make a hit in run support. I never thought I'd say this, but great pick Jets. Great pick.
Dolphins - This pick makes a lot of sense to me but is a huge reach in my opinion. The Dolphins signed Brandon Albert to play the LT position and James is very, very experienced at the RT, where he played almost exclusively at Tennessee. I think there are other better tackles available but none with the same experience playing the right side.
Saints - LOVE this pick. While it's not a huge need right now, Marquise Colston is almost to pasture and Cooks is a great fit. He's a tiny player but is very durable. He's fast and shifty to where he can easily take over the Darren Sproles role in the offense. It'll be bubble screens all day in New Orleans.
Trade Details: Arizona receives picks 27 and 91
