It is extremely difficult. One issue is, HOW MANY at each position?
We have talked a lot about WR -- will we keep 5 or 6? On the OL, it could be 8 or 9. At RB/FB it could be 4 or 5. At TE it could be 3 or 4.
For the DL, it could be 6 or 7. Linebackers could be 9 or 10. DBs could also be 9 or 10.
Regarding the greatest controversy on earth, he predicted we keep 6 WRs but I won't spoil it.
He also included 9 OL, 4 RB/FBs, 2 QBs, and only 3 TEs, 6 DL and 10 LBs (5 OLBs and 5 ILBs) and 10 DBs (5 CBs and 5 safeties).
Similarly difficult decisions will have to be made for the eight Practice Squad spots.
Just for one example, at CB we have VDavis, GToler, DButler and JGordy probably all sure bets for the roster, if healthy. But there are also SPrice, MBurley, LPurifoy and QCox as well as a few others. If one of these guys could also play safety that could really help.
Maybe just as interesting, are the players NOT on his list.
We can perhaps agree this is a reasonable list overall, even if we might disagree with a few selections.
Here is a partial list of players we have under contract, who did not make this list …
Many (not all) of these players are eligible for the practice squad, but only eight.
QB-3 Chandler Harnisch (I believe he is eligible for PS again this year)
RB — DHerron, CRainey and udfa ZTipton
FB — SHavili
TE — WSaunders and udfa ESwoope
WR — GWhalen and udfa EThomas
OL — JBreckner, UJohn and udfa JHarrison, JWalker
DL — udfa ZKerr
OLB — CJohnson, AStudebaker
ILB — KSheppard
S — DSims, udfa DMcDonald
CB — SPrice, MBurley, BBurton and udfa LPurifoy
It would be great if we could keep who we want, on the PS.
It would also be great if we could trade some of these players for draft picks.
