I am going to try and start a discussion - about what makes you a Colts fan. I understand people who live in Indy or nearby and feel a geographical connection but I was reading a post from a fan from Brazil. I am 60 years old and remember watching games with my dad in central Illinois. He was a Bears fan and I have always been an obstinate child and so while I would watch the Bears games - I truly admired Johnny Unitas as the 1st "gunslinger" and couldn't wait to watch the Baltimore Colts play the Giants. As I got older the team had less success but I still supported them and watched them whenever they were on TV. When Irsay moved them to Indy I vowed never to be a fan even though I had never been to Baltimore in my life and had never been to Indy. The season started and I had to check and see just how bad they were - Pagel and Schlichter split the QB duties and they were fairly bad - but by the end of the year I found myself finding some hope and saying I was a Colts fan - I was a fan of the players and supported them. This was in an era when players usually stayed with the same team their whole career or left toward the end - Johnny U to San Diego.
anyway - that is why I am Colts fan - Johnny Unitas caught my imagination and played the game the way it should be - remember games toward the end of the year where he would be wearing a special pad to protect ribs and had a few fingers broken and would trot out there and leave it all on the field -
