The Truth About The Running Back Position.

It seems there is some controversy amongst Colts fans on what to do about the Running Back position in the off-season. I have definitely been one of the biggest supporters of seriously addressing this position for 2015. However, I do not write this to make a case for my point. I simply want to take a look at the facts and dispell some of the fiction I have seen other Colts fans posting On this site.

Fiction#1-"the Colts are set with a RBBC next year with Boom, Bradshaw, and Ballard."

The Fact is Boom Herron and Zurlon Tipton are the only two backs on the roster that can be expected to be healthy by training camp.

Fiction #2- "Running Backs are a Dime a dozen"

Fact is out of the top 20 running backs sorted by rushing yards this season there were 4 UDFA and 2 more were selected after the 4th RD. Those RBs are in order Justin Forsett(5th), Arian Foster(6th), Alfred Morris(11th), Joique Bell(15th), C.J. Anderson(16th), and Chris Ivory(18th).

Fact is in 2013 there were only 3. Those players were Alfred Morris(4th), Zac Stacy(14th), and Chris Ivory(19th).

Fact is in 2012 there were 4. Alfred Morris(2nd), Arian Foster(6th), Benjarvus Green-Ellis(T12), Ahmad Bradshaw(14th).

Fact is over the last 3 seasons Alfred Morris is the only one listed above to appear on all three lists due to staying healthy and maintaining a high level of performance.

Fiction #3-"the patriots are living proof that it's the line play not the RB."

Fact is the New England Patriots ranked 18th in rushing offense this season.

Fact is out of 32 teams that is below average.

Fact is the Colts are the only team that struggles stopping New England from rushing for 250 yds.

I hope these Facts help some on here to quit posting some of the fiction in their assessment of the RB position. A good rushing attack is created by a balance of a steady line and a physically gifted running back that can Run hard, Catch passes, and Block Well. Just because Arian Foster and Alfred Morris happened does not mean we should count on a late round or UDFA to do the same. The cold hard truth is to draft a guy like Murray, Lynch, Charles, McCoy, Peterson, Bell, Forte, Lacy, Hill, Gore, Rice or ingram it will most likely cost us a 1st-3rd round pick just like the players above cost their respective teams.
