Fantasy Football Sleepers and Busts: Week 12

Editor's Note:  Be sure to get your picks in for the Stampede Blue Prediction Contest.  You have until 1:00 ET SundayGet your picks in sooner rather than later.

Welcome to Week 11 of your Fantasy Football Sleepers and Busts.  I'll review last week before going into this week's studs and duds.

Sleepers:

  • Matt Ryan:  250 passing, 0 TD/1 INT, 18 rush yds = 9 pts.  The Broncos actually shut him down, although the same couldn't be said about Michael Turner.  No TDs mean a bad week for fantasy QBs.
  • Pierre Thomas:  88 yds rush, 1 TD, 55 yds rec = 19 pts.  Big week for the Saints backup RB, as they finally won a road game.  He could have another decent week this week against GB on Monday night.
  • Bobby Engram:  30 yards = 3 pts.  I'm done taking Seahawk players.  They aren't worth anything, especially WR.

Busts:

  • Tony Romo: 198 yds passing, 1 TD/2 INT = 9 pts.  Romo struggled in his first game back, but did get the win, thanks to his battering-ram RB Marion Barber.  I'll take it.
  • LaDainian Tomlinson: 57 yds rushing, 1 TD, 45 receiving = 15 pts. Tomlinson played much better this week against a very good Steeler defense.  Hopefully it doesn't carry over to this week.
  • T.J. Houshmandzadeh: 149 yards, 1 TD = 20 pts.  I picked the wrong Bengal WR.  T.J. had a huge week.

My bonus pick of Jake Delhomme was not a good one.  Only 98 yds passing, 1 TD = 9 pts.  I can't believe I played him over Shaun Hill last week.  At least I still won.

So I was 2 / 7 last week, and 40/75 for the season. I need to do a better job this week.  I've been struggling.  Here are you fantasy nuggets for Week 12:

Sleepers:

  • Jason Campbell vs. SEA:  Jim Zorn returns to where he was coaching last year.  I'm sure he is very familiar with what the Seahawks do, and will help his QB have a big week.  The Redskins desparately need a win, and Campbell should help them do just that.
  • Justin Fargas vs. DEN: Darren McFadden is back healthy, so he probably won't get as many carries as he has been getting.  However, the Broncos are bad against the run, and Fargas wants to keep his job.  Expect good things from him this week.
  • Donnie Avery vs. CHI:  The Bears have been torched through the air the past 2 weeks by the Titans and Packers.  I know the Rams are awful, but they have shown, at times, to be able to throw the ball with some consistency.  The Bears are 31st against WR this season, so there is a chance the Rams could find their passing game again this week.

Busts:

  • Brett Favre vs. TEN: Favre hasn't thrown an INT in 3 weeks.  I think that ends this week.  As much as I want the Jets to win, I just can't see it happening.  Favre is going to take some ill-advised risks, and it will cost him.
  • Brian Westbrook vs. BAL:  Andy Reid all but decided he didn't want to run the ball last week, as McNabb threw 58 times against a bad Bengals time.  Now they play a legitimate defense in Baltimore.  Don't expect Westbrook to do much.
  • Roddy White vs. CAR: The Falcons got stomped by the Panthers the first time around, and I'm thinking the same will happen again.  Matt Ryan struggled, meaning White struggled.  Expect more of the same this week.

Bonus pick:  Jeff Garcia vs. DET. Garcia is playing one of his former teams this week, and should shred up that defense.  We're just 1 week away from 11-0 vs. 0-11.  I can't wait.

Weekly Derek Anderson "bust" pick:  Quinn got his first win on Monday night, thanks to the big leg of Phil Dawson, and Trent Edwards pulling a Peyton in the first quarter, throwing 3 INTs.  This week, he's playing with a broken finger in his throwing hand.  Let's see how this works out against the team the Colts beat last week, the Texans.

Fantasy Football Sleepers and Busts: Week 8

Editor's Note:  Be sure to get your picks in for the Stampede Blue Prediction Contest.  You have until 1:00 ET on SundayGet your picks in sooner rather than later.

Welcome to Week 8 of your Fantasy Football Sleepers and Busts.  I'll review last week before going into this week's studs and duds.

Sleepers:

  • Trent Edwards:  25/30, 261 yds passing, 1 TD / 0 INT, 6 yds rush = 16 pts.  He was in the top 10 for QBs last weekend, played well, and won.  I'll give myself credit for this one.
  • Chris Johnson:  168 yds rush, 1 TD, 2 catches, 4 yards = 22 pts.  This probably was too easy, as the Chiefs are awful.  I could have picked LenDale, and been correct as well.  I'm hoping this doesn't happen again this week.
  • Brandon Marshall:  6 catches, 77 yards = 7 pts.  The Broncos got blown out in Foxboro on Monday night.  I'm sure Cutler hurting his hand on the first play of the game didn't help.  No good for Marshall.

Busts:

  • Drew Brees: 231 yds passing, 0 TD/1 INT = 7 pts.  Brees is the #1 QB in fantasy, but certainly wasn't last week against Carolina.  It didn't surprise me though.  Mark another one on the board
  • Steven Jackson: 160 yds rushing, 3 TD, 16 receiving = 35 pts. Oops.  Guess I shouldn't start picking players 2 weeks in a row.  Jackson ran all over the Cowboys.  As right as I was with Brees, that's how wrong I was on Jackson.
  • Braylon Edwards: 4 catches, 58 yards, 1 2PT = 7 pts.  Scored the same as Marshall, and didn't count him, so I will count as a win with Edwards.  It didn't help that his quarterback was horrible, again.

My bonus pick of Matt Schaub also worked out well, 267 yds passing 2 TD / 1 FL, which is 20 points.  That's another win for me.

So I was 5 / 7 last week, and 28/47 for the season. There are 4 teams on bye this week, so make sure to take them out of your lineup (CHI, DEN, GB, MIN).  Here are you fantasy nuggets for Week 8:

Sleepers:

  • J.T. O'Sullivan vs. SEA:  Seattle is bad.  Really bad.  I'll go with the 49ers quarterback, who has had some decent weeks against bad defenses.  Seattle is the 3rd worst against QBs this season.
  • Sammy Morris BenJarvus Green-Ellis vs. STL: Morris had a big week against the bad Broncos defense, and I expect another big week for the Patriots RB against the Rams (whoever that may be).  Denver was 2nd worst against RB, and the Rams are 3rd worst.  Big day for Morris (or Green-Ellis, if Morris can't go).
  • DeSean Jackson vs. ATL:  Both teams are coming off of a bye, so they will be well rested.  We all know Andy Reid likes to throw the ball, and I think the return of Brian Westbrook will help the passing game immensely.  The Falcons are also pretty bad giving up points to WR (26th), and the Eagles are 4th.  I'm seeing a break out game for the rookie.

Busts:

  • Kurt Warner vs. CAR: I'm riding the Panthers defense once again, this time against the high flying Cardinal offense.  Both units are highly ranked, but the Panthers shut down Brees last week, so I think they'll do it again, at home, to Warner.
  • Marshawn Lynch vs. MIA:  The Dolphins are 7th against RB this season, and this is the first divisional game for the Bills.  Expect a hard fought game, and not a good week for Lynch.
  • Plaxico Burress vs. PIT: Burress, while scoring a TD each of the past 2 weeks, is going against his former team for the first time.  The Steelers are playing at home, and are very good against WR (5th).  Don't expect much from the Giants #1 Receiver.

Bonus pick:  Jason Campbell vs. DET.  I'm a happy owner of the Redskin QB this week.  I think I'll be playing him over Eli this week as well.

Weekly Derek Anderson "bust" pick:  That's the Derek Anderson we all know and love.  14/37, 136 yds, 1 TD / 0 INT.  Only 11 points as well.  But Crennel will be fired before he even lets Quinn sniff the field.  But I digress.

Know Your Colts History: The All-Important HOF Game Scouting Report

As you all probably know, I live in northern Virginia, so even though I'm a diehard Colts fan, I know a lot about the Redskins through local osmosis.  Since we'll be facing them on Sunday, I figured that I might as well give you a little scouting report on a player from each position on the Redskins.

QB - The name to know here is Jason Campbell.  To this point, I'd say that he's fared better than their previous first round choices, Patrick Ramsey and congressman Heath Shuler, but he hasn't had a breakout season to this point.  With that said, some people are saying the 'Skins should try to get in the Brett Favre sweepstakes, so take that for what it's worth.

RB - When he's not starring at running back, you can find Clinton Portis taking care of business as Coach Janky Spanky.

Portispants_medium

WR - Santana Moss is the team's best receiving threat, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're more familiar with Antwann Randle-El from his days as a QB at Indiana.  As a Redskin, they've utilized him in several ways, as a wideout, a returner, and as a QB on some trick plays.  There's no doubt that he's fast, but could he outrun a bear?  He seems to think so.  I'd tend to agree, unless he's covered in deer blood.

TE - This is where you'll find Chris Cooley doing his thing.  Surely you're aware of his exploits as a blogger and destroyer of walls.

OL - Left tackle Jon Jansen has an RV that he brings to camp every season.  Most of the O-Line chills in there during down time between practice.  And when I say "chill" what I really mean is that they're doing other things.

DL - Newly acquired Jason Taylor is a pretty big deal in D.C. right now, but he was HUGE in London.

LB - Unlike most of the linebackers from the Colts that parlayed their success into a big deal with another team, Marcus Washington has lived up to his deal with the Redskins.  His tackling and speed are two of his greatest assets, but if you're not careful, he'll get you with those chompers of his.

DB - I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure Fred Smoot is the only player in Sunday's game with his own energy bar.

K - Everywhere is field goal range for Shaun Suisham:

Don't be alarmed, it's fake.

P - Sadly, it looks like rookie punter Durant Brooks will unseat Derrick Frost as the team's punter, which is a total shame because they could use his intensity.  You might remember Derrick Frost as the punter who got an unsportsmanlike penalty called against him the last time the Colts faced the Redskins.  Good times.

LS - The Redskins long-snapper is Ethan Albright.  Yes, that Ethan Albright.
