Edgerrin is a Cardinal

It's posted on the Arizona Cardinals website, and now the Indy Star has picked it up. He signed a 4 year contract for $30 million. Terms and details of the contract are not available yet. It's a sad day because Edge is one of my favorite players, ever. He had a cool demeanor, and played the game with professionalism and pose. It's unfortunate because he is going to rot in Arizona. They are a crappy club with a washed up QB and an overrated coach.

But, Edge wanted the guaranteed money and I cannot begrudge that. He uses that money to help build up community service centers in his hometown of Immokalee, FL, a town made up of mostly poor, black families. He's a legend there, and rightfully so.

Good luck Edge! We wish you and your family well.  We'll miss you in Blue Country. Also, yesterday back-up DT Larry Tripplett signed with the Buffalo Bills. He gave the Colts one good season, and it was a contract year. So, not really all that sorry to see Tripp leave. This will be a very, very interesting off-season for Bill Polian. He's worked magic before when everyone wrote off the Colts. Let's see if he can do it again.

Update [2006-3-12 16:16:41 by BigBlueShoe]: ESPN has some of Edge's contract numbers.

In keeping with franchise policy, the Cardinals did not release contract figures. However, sources told ESPN.com that James receives an immediate signing bonus of $7 million and an additional roster bonus of $4.5 million later this week. The two-time NFL rushing champion's base salaries are $3.25 million for 2006, $5.25 million ('07), $5 million ('08) and $5 million ('09), according to sources. The deal will pay James $20 million over the first two years. By comparison, the $62 million contract signed last week by Shaun Alexander pays $18.5 million in the first two years.

WOW!
Seems to me I predicted Edge would be g-o-n-e.  Watching the press conference...boy, he is surely NOT a bright guy.  Bad choice for him.  He is gonna get killed playing behind that line.

Next prediction...Peyton Manning is gonna get killed nest year.  With no running game (but the best receivers money can buy) he will not be able to get them the ball.  Colts do not make the playoffs because Manning is out for the season after week 4 or 5.

So, when the Colts smoke NE again
in Foxboro next year, can I bring these comments back to your site and throw them in your face?

;)

I'm sad to see Edge go, but the Colts will be just fine. You guys just cut Willie "Fakes" McGinest and you might lose Vinatieri. If that's the case: seeya NE!

And who are you to criticize our ex-RB for his intelligence? Have you heard Corey "Ouch, I'm hurt!" Dillon talk? CAN he talk, or make a complete sentence?

Also, did u see his contract numbers
That's a lot of bread up front for a 28-year-old back.

Very Interesting...
I am very interested to see who the Colts will sign at running back or draft. I was hoping they would be able to pitch an offer to James after the collective bargaining issue. The Cardinals offense has a lot of potential with their young receivers, but they have failed to execute the past few years due to a horrid running game. James can't do it alone, but if he somehow can provide Arizona with a ground game, they may challenge for a wildcard in the NFC.

In the long run, I think the Colts will be fine without James. Although James was very good for a running back, Manning and the blockers create a lot of the plays by his audibles at the line of scrimmage.

I wonder what the Cardinals will do with JJ Arrington now...

Some good points Chris
I have a feeling the Colts will run by committe next year. You'll see RB Dom Rhodes combined with a rookie, and maybe a rookie. I'm interested in seeing if Indy tries to move up (which they have NEVER done) and get LenDale White.

sure
Again, when and if you beat us in a meaningful game(a playoff game!), let me know.  Colts 6-10 next year.  I could care less if everyone in NE had an IQ of 80...it was a general statement that he does not appear to be a rocket scientist...neither does Dillon and 80% of the nfl...it was amusing to watch someone who just scored $30 million have a difficult time with the english language...beautiful country we live in!

Are you kidding me?  Losing Vinatieri and McGinest somehow makes us non-contenders?  Why would they out and out cut McGinest if that would be the downfall of the franchise?  Geez, big blue...they are not the same as losing a 1600 yard rusher.  Man, you really need to take off your blue shaded glasses and say Edge leaving kills the Colts.  Losing McGinest and/or Vinatieri would hurt, but not cause us to collapse. If you think that's the case, you ought to examine the Pats a little closer...

I've said this before
and I'll say it again: Vinatieri is as important to NE as Brady is. Without him, they a d-o-n-e.

New England's Glory...
Although I love the Colts, I have to give the Patriots all the credit in the world. Teams always have injuries and then collapse. The Patriots will have injuries to the point where Troy Brown is a nickel back, and still perform very well as a defensive unit.

Losing McGinest won't "help" the Patriots, but just like they've done the past few years, they'll plug someone in.

However, I am wondering when New England will start signing some "big-name" players again...last one I remember them getting is Dillon...

Blue...
I just lost all respect for you as a football "mind".  Are you freaking kidding me?  Vinatieri as important as Brady?  Have you been drinking?  THAT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS STATEMENT I HAVE EVR HEARD...and with it, to me you just lost all credibility.  If we lose Vinatieri we are done?  Dude, put down the bong.  Sure, he is a staple in New England and has made some clutch kicks.  But give me a break.  He is not a 1600-1800 yard rusher (Edge), a QB or a linebacker or cornerback.  That is simply a ridiculous and foolish statement.

Chris...The Pats traded for Dillon, for a second round pick.  I am just as curious as to when they will sign anyone.  They have never made a big splash in free agency.  The last big name was Colvin and he proceeded to blow his hip out in week two during the first year with the Patriots.

jeezum crow!
Look, I love Vinatieri.  The man is clutch and I know how big a deal he is in NE.  Him and Terry Francona will never have to buy a drink again in any Boston bar.  But yikes!  Look at the numbers.  Vinatieri was 20 for 25 last year (60 points by my new math calculations).  Brady had 26 TD's.  That's 156 points, almost 3X as many points as Vinatieri.  I love the guy, but Vinatieri is no Tom Brady.

And what was NE's record last year?
Exactly.

With no defense, the Patriots are a playoff team that loses to an average Denver team. Now you know what it has felt like for us Colts fans.

I'll remind you that all those great, clutch games NE has won in recent years (Oakland snow game, SB against the Rams, SB against Carolina) were all won by Vinatieri FGs, not TDs via Brady.

Vinatieri is money. He is a difference maker. Losing him would be a big, big deal and you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

Just shut it
Who got the team down the freaking field to kick the FG. Yes, losing him is not good, but the skuy wouldn't fall. And, you guys just lost Thorton too...can we say 6-10? Your logic does not hold water... And, the Colts are a playoff team that loses EVERY year. Ummm, average Denver team? Really Blue put down the bong.

A team with
Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Brandon Stokley, Dwight Freeney, Cato June, Corey Simon, and Bob Sanders is going to win only 6 games?

And you say I'M smoking a crack pipe?
