Larry Foote = whiny b!tch

Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd said this when he was asked about teams copying the Steelers gameplan against the Colts:

"Teams are going to look at (Pittsburgh and San Diego) and say, 'Let's try to do the same thing,' " he said. "If they see somebody they think stopped you for a week, they're going to come out and try to do some of the very same things.''

Take your best shot, replied Mudd. And that includes the Steelers, should they meet again this postseason.

"I'm very respectful of the Pittsburgh Steelers," Mudd said. "They won. They are the champions and I respect them. But the Pittsburgh Steelers did not beat the Colts. The Colts beat the Colts.

"Let's go play again. Right now."

Steelers linebacker Larry Foote responded to Mudd's comments:
"He said we didn't beat them?" Foote said. "What happened on the defensive side of the ball, when our offense was driving up and down the field on them? He didn't say anything about the interception we had (by strong safety Troy Polamalu) that the referees called back?

"Tell him they were outcoached."

Psst, Larry. You see that part where Howard Mudd says he respects you, and calls you champion? Did you somehow miss that, or are you just a whiny b!tch with a first grade reading level? Or, even worse, did you just accept whatever the reporter fed you without first consulting the source?

And Larry, I'd get your memory checked. Your offense didn't drive up and down the field all game on the Colts. The INT call back was sketchy, but so were several pass interference calls, or non-calls, that favored the Steelers all game (something that reoccurred in the Steelers' favor in the Super Bowl against Seattle).

So please, quit the crying Larry, or I might have to buy you a matching rattle and diaper.

Methinks Larry feels disrespected. Why? He has a ring. Why does he even care what some o-line coach thinks? Maybe he just needs to remove his head from his own a$$.

Update [2006-8-16 16:31:17 by BigBlueShoe]: Well, it seems many of the fine chaps at Behind the Steel Curtain disagree with my assessment. I had no idea Steelers fans actually cared what I thought.

"But the Pittsburgh Steelers did not beat the Colts."

Sounds like Foote was responding to exactly what he said verbatim. Just because you preface your comments with "I respect blah blah...." doesn't change that what he said afterwards was dumb and Foote called him out on it.  Do you really think the Colts weren't outcoached and the outcome of that game hinged on no-call pass interferences?

They got outplayed, outcoached, had multiple chances to win handed to them and they failed. You'd think by now they'd have gotten over it.

I think
the Colts were outplayed, not outcoached.

Not outcoached?
At what point after seeing Manning dust himself off...yet again, does the offensive line coach, offensive coordinator or Tony Dummy turn around and say, "Hey!  I got an idea, let's block for Manning?"

I dunno.

Oh wait didn't Manning already blame his offensive line like the warrior leader he is?

The good news is that I was watching that NFL.com Fantasy Football commercial and they told me that Peyton and Eli both retired.

Sketchy?
"The INT call back was sketchy"

I thought the NFL came right out and said the call was wrong, not sketchy.

He says he respects the Steelers and then goes on to say they didn't beat them.  Where is the respect there?  I think Porter was fairly reserved in his comments.  Sometimes he isn't as reserved.

The Colts should take their losses like men and then they should focus on winning this year.  And maybe even some playoff games!

Come on
He respects them and calls them champions, but like any proud positional coach, he reaffirms that his boys are good, and that their mistakes (not Pittsburgh's play) were the difference.

And it was Foote, not Porter, who made the comments.

The INT call was bad, but so were several other calls in the playoffs (Ben's "TD run" in the SB comes to mind).

Point is this: what's Larry's friggin' problem?

Foote
Foote, sorry.  Porter is usually the one talking!  The point is.  The O-line coach says something that pisses Larry off and rightfully so.  He makes a REASONABLE comment.  No need to say he has his head up his ass and call him a baby.  And now you bring up Ben's TD run just to try to start more crap?  Just let it be.  Your team lost.  Again.

Steelers arent any better
Its not like nobody on the Steelers ever takes a shot at the Colts. After the Colts lost to the Steelers Joey Porter had to go and say that the NFL wanted the Colts to win so Peyton Manning could win a Super Bowl. That was siad after the Steelers already won the game. That was a cheap shot and the NFL came out and said that the referee made a mistake.I dont think Joey Porter was even fined. What Howard Mudd said wasn't even that bad. It was true because the Colts werent playing the same way the played when they went 13-0. I think some credit goes to the Steelers, but they got a little lucky as well.

Just more drama in the
Peyton "I want to be Dan Marino" Manning story.

Good point Playoff Pride
Mudd's comments certainly weren't upsetting when you read them, which is why Foote's reaction is so funny.

I'd still like to know why he's so upset at what a friggin' Colts coach thinks about that game.

It just sounds like Larry is a little insecure.

I am going to refrain
from entering this fray, but I have made the post, hopefully some Bears fans can add to this without any potential homerism.

by WCG on Aug 17, 2006 2:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Hmmmm WCG....
Which Bears fans were you referring too?

by Chad on Aug 17, 2006 2:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I know of only
one who would relish the chance, but you never know who might pipe up.

I'd love to see
the Steelers and Colts meet up in the playoffs again.

Maybe that game can decide who is really right.

by Terry on Aug 18, 2006 3:51 PM EDT   0 recs

Not really...
It wouldn't be the same teams playing.

by Chad on Aug 18, 2006 4:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes it would
Ben, Joey, Troy, Willie, and Hines are still in Pittsburgh.

Peyton, Marvin, Dwight, Bob, and Reggie are still Colts.

The big absences would be on the Colts side: Edge and Vandy.

Pittsburgh stll has its core team.

Oh boy...
Do you really believe that?  Do you really think that if they run into each other that it's the same?

And even if you do, the guy who fumbled to set up the possible game winning drive (Bettis) is gone.  And the guy who missed the kick to lose the game is gone too.

IF only that, this game can never be the same but don't think that a re-match means anything casue as we know, on any given Sunday...

by Chad on Aug 18, 2006 6:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It actually might be a better game
If/when it happens. Both players that performed horribly that day (Bettis and Vandy) are gone.

Fine
Maybe it will be a better game.  Just not the same.
