Masson breaks down the history of the Colts against the Patriots

From Masson, in the diaries:

Bill Belichick standing on the sidelines during the Patriots v. Chargers game Sunday
So, the AFC Championship game will be the Colts versus the Patriots in Indianapolis. Bill Belichick reminds me of the Cobra Kai's evil dojo master in The Karate Kid. ("Sweep the leg, Johnny") Hopefully Tony Dungy will be able to make like Mr. Miyagi and  tweak him on the nose. Hopefully Peyton Manning will not suffer a knee injury from an illegal hit or try the "Crane Technique" to finish off the Pats at the end.

This will be only the second time the Patriots have played in Indianapolis since the Colts moved to the AFC South in 2002. The Colts lost that game in 2003, thanks in large part to Patriots player Willie McGinest faking an injury that allowed the Patriots to put a new defensive package on the field -- McGinest was instrumental in stopping that final drive of the Colts before he sprinted off to the Colts logo to celebrate without the slightest evidence of the debilitating leg injury that had been so grievous just two plays before that he had to writhe around on the field and stop play. (This year, I suggest we have an "injury team" that acts like a ball boy in a tennis match, swooping in to scoop "injured" Patriots off the field before they can stop play.)

Meanwhile, since 2002 while the Patriots have played in Indy only once, the Colts have played in Foxboro 5 times, compiling a record of 2-3 in New England. CJ at "Charlie Weiss Ate My Baby" suggests that we send the Patriots head office directions from Mapquest to make sure they know how to get here.

If you want to read the whole thing, check out the diary entry. Masson is one of the better posters here. Enjoy.

I am sure you have a list
of all the excuses ready.

1.The corners mauled our receivers.
2.Their O-line was holding.
3.The NFL was against us.
4.Phil Simms loves Tom Brady.
5.The turned the air conditioning up too much.
6.That should have been ruled a catch.
7.That shouldn't have been ruled a catch.
8.That should have been ruled a fumble.
9.That shouldn't have been ruled a fumble.
10.Tom Brady is gay.
11.Bill Belichick is the devil.
12.The league hates Peyton Manning.
13.The league loves Tom Brady.
14.We should get 4 points for a field goal.
15.The Patriots just suck.

Just tell me
You believe McGinest was injured during that game in 2003. (And, as a follow up, you'll have to explain why Ty Law was "injured" at the exact same time, only to bounce right back up when he saw McGinest was "hurt" too.)

I just need to know if you believe (a) that McGinest was healed as if by miracle; or (b) the Patriots were cheating.

Do not care
Won the game.  Period.  Bwahhhhhhh....typical Colt fan whiner...blame it on everyone else.

Doesn't matter
I was at the game.  I was on the goal-line.  He wasn't hurt, and everyone knew it.  It's over, I'd say that was last season, but it's been even longer than that.

You better get your list of excuses ready for when the Pats are sent packin'.  I've put some suggestions together for your use.

  1. Dwight Freeney is a big meanie and hurt Brady
  2. Your receivers are too good for our corners
  3. Bob Sanders should have fumbled that interception.
  4. The league wants Peyton to win a Super Bowl
  5. There is no way Marvin got 2 feet in bounds.
  6. The Colts were too physical.
  7. Belichick and Brady can't lose, they just can't
  8. Bob Sanders should have been stopped by the US Missile Defense System.
  9. The Pats equipment manager accidentally gave Belichicks lucky hooded sweatshirt to Goodwill
  10. Manning can't win a big game. (The last 2 in Foxboro didn't count because of bad officiating, injuries, etc...)

Wow original...
Cannot even come up with anything on your own.

I forgot one:
It's a conspiracy.  Even though the league want Peyton to win the SB so badly and he is in EVERY commercial...

Hey ppr314:  Wow.  You guys beat us (twice)in the regular season.  We have 3 Super Bowl trophies.  If you beat us this weekend, maybe you'll earn some respect.

BTW, we do not make excuses unlike Colts fans and Polian.  We get beat by better teams or outcoached.  We don't go running to the NFL and bitch to make rule changes that favor our team.  waaaaaaahhhh!

wow
Way to prove to everyone here you are a knob as well.  The Colts are probably the most humble team in the NFL.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Can we straighten this whole "rule change" thing out once and for all.

No rules were changed...period. The officials, pressured by the NFL, had to start calling the illegal touching when a receiver passed the 5 yard buffer. The rule has not been changed since our first game vs. the pats in the playoffs. NOW, SINCE SOMEONE HAD A PASSING GAME THAT CANNOT BE STOPPED W/OUT CHEATING, NFL HAD TO START CALLING THE "CHEATING."

"GO HORSE!"

You're a badass
Yep... you do have 3 Super Bowl trophies.  How many do you have this year?  Zero.  That was in the past, get over it.  It's a different season.

We didn't change the rules, we just refused to allow the Patriots to cheat anymore.

I don't make excuses.  The Colts were outplayed by the Pats when you beat us, and we were outplayed by the Steelers last year.

Come back Sunday night, without your excuses.

history
all this stuff is history.  all that matters is who wins sunday.  our D is playing the best they have since the Harbaugh played KC in arrowhead and knocked off a 15-1 team in the playoffs.  how ironic that the COLTS are playing BUC BALL.  -  whatever works.

a lot of teams have played that injury game against us  to stop the no huddle- titans were the worst.  is hard for the league to stop that kind of cheating, how do you prove someone isn't hurt? and giving coaches the right to call timeouts has screwed the no huddle and any kind of trick plays even worse (personally i think coaches being able to call timeout is one of the dumbest rule changes they have come out with)

if our D keeps playing at this level and Peyton gets in back together  none of this will matter though -  this team will be unstoppable.

and let's be honest here  -  this sunday AFC championship is the REAL superbowl.  whoever wins this one should beat up on the NFC team that comes out of the other game.   like Dallas and 49er's a few years back.

this is becoming a real rivalry,  and is great for the sport and the ratings.  i imagine we will all be sick of the Manning -Brady thing by the end of the week. (hey the last two meetings were some of the highest rated ever)

Something for the Brady fans out there...
I thought our visiting Patriot fans would like this tribute video of Tom Brady.

I got a kick out of it...

Go Colts!

this whole "rule change" thing
Beester,

Maybe you should read the Kerry Byrne column cited in diary entry by your boy Masson:

"The Patriots, with Belichick as head coach, humiliated the Indy Colts and their high-powered offense with a 24-14 victory.  Indy's receivers were beat up so badly in that game that the organization complained to the NFL afterward. The Colts forced the league to redefine the rules to make it easier for receivers to get open and more difficult for defenders to man up against them."  (Emphasis added).

Also, it's not "cheating" if the refs are watching and aren't calling it.  Obviously, the Colts were welcome to do the same.  You guys should be thankful -- it's because of the Pats that the Colts finally learned to play real football -- not that indoor crap they used to play.  Don't be mad because the Pats made them grow up.   I'm a lifelong Pats fan but for first time I have respect for the Colts -- never heard Manning whine like LT.  BTW, Pats by 5 - could be 105-100 or 5-0 (the dreaded safety/field goal combo) but it will be Pats by 5.

So, Kerry Byrne is wrong ...
It's not the first time a journalist has screwed up the facts.

It's simply not true that the rules were changed. The rules are exactly as same as they were, it's just now they're enforced more strictly.

Cheating
I believe that if "you're not cheating, than you're not trying." Barry Bonds cheats, Everyone in baseball cheats.

When we lined up against the Pats in previous play-off games, we weren't "trying" to win the game!!!

YES, it is cheating, but your coach just wanted to win more than ours.

"GO HORSE!"
