Edgerrin James = Standup Guy

We've been debating whether or not Edge regrets leaving Indy now that they are in the Super Bowl. Whatever you opinions of Edgerrin, you cannot say he is a "turncoat." The dude is just a pleasant, standup guy who does not forget his friends. Edge was there to greet the Colts when they arrived in Miami:

[Edgerrin] James, who attended the University of Miami, lives here during the offseason and knows all the hot spots. No wonder he was eagerly awaiting the Monday night arrival of the Indianapolis Colts, who finally advanced to the Big Game -- without him.

"This is like the only night we'll have to hang out," James said Monday afternoon before heading to the Colts hotel. "It's like I told them, I don't have a curfew, but they do. I'm going to make sure that my boys won't get in trouble."

After six seasons in Indianapolis, James signed a free agent deal with the Arizona Cardinals last spring. He doesn't sound bummed the Colts reached this point in their first season since his departure.

"I'm with them," he says. "I'm cool with everything. Remember, I'm Edge. I'm totally different than most cats. My friends are still with that team. We're like family."

Edge is still one of my all-time favorite Colts.

I just wanted to comment ...
That James is one of my all-time favorite Colts as well. I don't want people to think that I dislike him at all - Indianapolis and the Colts organization both owe James a lot.

I was very sorry to see him go, and not ecstaticly happy with the way he was treated by Polian at the end of last season.

It's too bad that Edge can't share in this experience this year.

I agree
I loved Edge, and I don't agree with the way he was treated, although in hindsight Polian and Edge did what was best for them.  Polian got a great runner for cheaper, and Edge got the financial security he deserved.  After he tore his ACL, he realized that he can't take his career for granted, because any play could be his last.  Too bad he won't be out there with Manning and Harrison to start the Super Bowl.

Classy, classy guy...

missing james
we might not miss james' production as a running back, but as a person, and one of the colts 'triplets' things are certainly not the same without him.  would have been nice to be able to keep him, but in the salary cap world a running back who is getting into the later half of his career is not the best choice, and running back is probably one of the easiest positions to replace.

that being said, it would be nice is someday edge managed to get his ring... like many other players i have liked over the years.. like marshall faulk, ken dilger etc.

Wouldn't it be awesome to see the Cardinals win the Super Bowl next year?

The edge is missed
I also miss the Edge. He put up an image of a street-wise guy but was a real hard worker who Peyton really regretted losing. Based on salary it may have been OK to let him go, but he had a winning attitude. I've seen criticisms of his playoff record but a big part of that is game plans that did not take advantage of his skills. He was best when the passing game is in gear and then he would wear a defense down. Well the passing game has rarely been in gear during previous years' playoffs. With regard to the short yardage criticism, he rarely missed on third or fourth and short yardage. I appreciate the tandem of Addai and Rhodes but am not convinced that they are superior to The Edge. The touchdown Addai scored brought back memories of the longest yard that the Colts could not gain 3 years ago to beat the Pats but a key difference was that this year there was no McGinest to block the way. Anyway, I wish the Edge well and hope he re-establishes himself as a premier back next year, maybe even leading the Cardinals into the playoffs.
