Gruden/Dungy

I come here as a Buc fan, but many in Tampa, including myself, have a great deal of respect for Tony Dungy. The way Dungy carries himself on and off the field is top notch. The Colts take on his calm persona and his ability to treat men as men earns his players respect. He also knows defensive talent when he sees it and his game planning and strategizing are vastly underrated.
Coaches who yell, like Gruden, can be effective also, especially if they know their stuff and work long hours like he does. Unfortunately the message wears thin after some time. Being a hard *ss works in college because of turnover every three to four years. Yelling and public humiliation will grate on players after three or four years in the pros (see Bill Parcells and Larry Brown NBA) so either the coach leaves or the team gets turned over. In the Bucs and Jon Grudens case, the team has turned over with just three players, Brooks, Barber and Kelly, left over from the team that won the SB in 2002. It's not a bad thing having a young, fast defense, sprinkled with veterans. Gruden also has his veteran QB who can run his complicated playbook. There are a few guys who actually benefit from the coach being a task master or they stand up to the coach and take their respect as Garcia has. The D is run by Monte Kiffen and he also helps select D players. Keep your eye on Rudd and Phillips this Sunday for some hard hits. I expect a closer game than most predict.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

um
What the hell is the point in this diary?
Go Colts!

um
Do you see the title Dungy/Gruden? It was a comparison of coaching styles moron, how obvious can you get. What is the point of these diaries anyway? Aren't they just random football thoughts from fans? Do you have any football thoughts? All I have seen from you is criticism. You do think you are royalty, don't you? King Dick is more like it.

by Bucsfan on Oct 6, 2007 6:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

ok
You failed miserably actually comparing the two.  All you stated was "Dungy is a nice guy and Gruden likes to yell."  Um...no shit?  What kind of in depth comparison was it.

I just don't understand your way of posing arguments or making statements.  You make a single point, then bring it 100 other things that are totally irrelevant to the topic at hand and try to use that to make yourself look smart.  No one cares about the Bucs turnover since Gruden is there.  We are not Bucs fans.

Go Colts!

OK
I wasn't posing an argument or making a single point. I didn't know there were rules to this diary. I was comparing the two different coaching stlyes of Gruden and Dungy. They both work, but the tough style grates on players. The Bucs lost Keyshaun, McKardel, Sapp, Lynch, Rice and many others because they didn't mesh with Gruden. If I looked smart doing it, why would you criticize me for that?  I also mentioned a few players to look out for on D, but King Dick doesn't want to hear it. Obviously I said more than "Dungy is a nice guy and Gruden likes to yell" Comment on the "smart" stuff wise guy.
I don't know as much about the Colt as it's fans, but I do know about the Bucs. What else am I to talk about? Maybe coaching styles?
You are playing the Bucs this week; if you don't want to read a Bucfans point of view on things, don't read my diary.

gaggag
My point is, you aren't telling us "Colts Fans" anything we don't already know brohemian.  Besides your comparison wasn't even remotely interesting, nor grounds to spark an intellectual conversation on those two coaches characteristics.  Just do us all a favor and delete it please.
Go Colts!

Gag on this
For something not even remotely interesting, you sure are spending a lot of time commenting on it. First you say I was trying to sound smart, then instead of intelligently adding your take, again  King Dick says nothing but a weak criticism.
Do you know anything about football? I haven't heard it yet.
Is that your best comeback? Your first comment to me was "I don't want to waste my time replying" You sure are wasting a lot of time and not saying a damm thing.
Tell ME something I don't know
I was trying to give some insight to the Bucs, what are you bringing to the dance princess, besides your high heels and your weed?

jiastijat
I wasn't typing gag, wow.

Too bad for you, I'm not even replying to your intended discussion, whatever that is, in the first place.  I replying to your ignorance in not understanding what I'm saying.

There's nothing for me to add my take on.  You said nothing remotely interesting or unique on about the upcoming game, nor about either of those coaches.  So what exactly am I supposed to contribute other than "yeah thats right."

I know enough about football.

Comeback?  What do you want me to do, resort to name-calling like you?  Ok then poopie pants.

You don't know what you are talking about.  That's something you obviously don't know.

Like I've said 5829892865 times before, you didn't give us any insight we didn't already know.

Go Colts!

also..
Throwing insults at me isn't exactly the best way to sway me to understand what you are doing.  Most people who understand the concept of a civil argument know this.

Please
You have been insulting me since I got here, I would love to talk football.
I just playing defense here, you started.

negatory
I never insulted you once.  If you can prove me otherwise, feel free.
Go Colts!

Proof
I already pointed this out. In response to your comment to "three touch downs in a row" in the troll thread, I made a two subject statement.
Your reply "Alright, considering your argument jumped around and was very presumptuous, I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you"
Was that some sort of compliment?
You have criticized and insulted every post I have made since.
What are you talking about?
You certainly can dish it out, but you don't take it very well.
If you reply to this, please make it about football.

by Bucsfan on Oct 6, 2007 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok
You are just delusional now man.  How is calling you presumptuous equal to calling you a moron, or King Dick.  Are you messed in the head?  Seriously.  Stop making stupid posts, and I'll stop saying their stupid.
Go Colts!

High and Mighty
Telling someone you don't want to waste your time on them is the insult, I think you are high.
You have criticized everything I have written, that is an insult.
It is called passive aggressive behavior. Sure you have not used derogatory terms, but read all your posts; you know you were insulting all my comments.
You were acting holier than thou, hence the King Dick.
Don't play that "I didn't insult you BS", save that BS for your girlfriend or wife.
If you call my posts stupid as you just did, that is an insult, expect something back.
Are you King of the message boards, Dick?

hahahaha
My god.  That was the most retarded paragraph I've ever read.  Just shut up, I'm not going to reply to you anymore after this.  k thnx bye
Go Colts!

by KingRichard on Oct 6, 2007 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You are pathetic
Of course my comments were the most retarded you ever read, all my comments have been pointless according to you. Why have you wasted your whole Sat night responding to a fan from the team your favorite football team is playing the next day and you have not said one thing about football?
Do you promise you won't post again and say absolutly nothing like you have since I arrived on this board.
Why are you telling me to shut up? This is my diary, numbskull.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!
that was good, bucs fan.

I came here to talk football
All I have been doing is fending off insults from The King. A made a comparison between a hardnosed coach and respectfull coach but it wasn't good enough for King. Instead of adding to my info and maybe telling me something about Dungy I don't know(he is my neighbor in Tampa) or ignoring my post, I have been attacked. Fine. But expect it back. Don't play dumb(probably easy) and say "I didn't do anything" as the King has done.
I have yet to hear one bit of football from the King besides.
Is he always like this?
Does he know about the game or is he the board critic?

by Bucsfan on Oct 6, 2007 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey Man There's a Beverage Here!
Let us pause a moment and think of The Dude and he's great wisdom.

Now allow me to say that you are welcome here Bucsfan and we appreciate your posts. Please don't take The King personally. He is good friends with my former roommate and a really solid guy. He can come across a bit rough sometimes, but we love him all the same.

As for Gruden I have never been a fan of his. The way he has handled players like Keenan McCardell, really has hurt the Bucs position in this league. A lot of players don't want to play for Gruden.

by MasterRWayne on Oct 6, 2007 10:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree
That was one of the points of my diary really, that coaches like Gruden wear thin on players and either they leave or the players leave. Unfortunatly, the players have been leaving instead of Gruden and we had to turn over the whole team. McCardell wasn't the only one treated bad. Keyshuan was suspended for half a year and traded away, Rice was told he was cut in training at the dinner table. Gruden admits he is bad at goodbyes. Many players leave mad and it does hurt attracting players unless they are attempting a career resurection like Chris Hovan.

I think..
Buc's fan is an asshole too.

I was on here all last year and then the off season. Nothing close to this has happened. We get two Bucs fans that act like this. This isn't intelligent football discussion, they have fucked the whole board up and I would have banned both of them.

At least Terry has a brain and doesn't attack people and reply on every damn post.

I think I'm going to bug out until after the Bucs game. Maybe by then the mosquitos will have gone back to Tampa.

by will on Oct 6, 2007 11:11 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

OK
Listen Will, you have already said you don't like fans from other teams posting here on another thread. Now I am a a**hole? You can see from my reply to MasterRWayne, my intention was to talk football. I am sorry you are unwilling to do that and are resorting to name calling and an insulting approach like KR. I have just been defending my posts from attacks; I got in a few digs just like everyone else. A lot of you really don't want to hear anything negative about your team. The board is messed up because instead of talking football, you are too busy insulting me and my posts. As you have guessed by now, I am not a professional writer, same as everyone else who posts here. My insight is not perfect nor is my knowledge of the Colts. That is why I am here, to learn about the Colts from its fans. Other teams' fans are always on our boards. They are talked to and we debate, no one has been treated as I have here. You guys have a great team that will make the playoffs and will have a great chance of repeating. Don't be so defensive!!
