Edge gets a Super Bowl ring
18 to 88 has a story up via Arizona Central:
"I wanted to keep that a secret," James said.
Understandable. The ring is a symbol of the past. It brings up uncomfortable topics, like how the Colts won a championship without him. It reinforces conventional wisdom, and how it's unwise to spend big dollars on prime-time running backs, like the Cardinals did with James.

But you know what else it says?
It says that James really mattered in Indianapolis, and that the Colts openly recognize that they couldn't have won a title without him.
"Peyton (Manning) tells me all the time that, in the 19 to 20 years he's been playing football, Edgerrin James is the best teammate he's ever had," said former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, father of Peyton and Eli. "The one regret they all have is that they couldn't have won while (James) was still there."
In a coldhearted business like the NFL, that is the ultimate compliment.

Maybe Edge got rid of the gold teeth
Also Brady has now thrown the same number of passes this season as Manning did in 2004, Brady is still at 45 TDs.

wait...
Don't get me wrong, I loved James and all, but he really had nothing to do with the Colts winning, and it makes really no sense at all why they gave him one.

Winning the Superbowl
Edge was huge in setting the Colts up for a Superbowl run in 6 different years, it just happened that the year they finally won it was the 7th after he had left.

For the same reason
Same basic thing with Edge. Despite the obvious differences between a player and a head coach, the principle is the same. I have no problem with the organization thanking him for his service.
Maybe if the Colts had figured out the whole "don't run your stud back into the ground so that he's toast by the playoffs" thing a couple years earlier, Edge would've had his own rings anyway.
