Bill Polian Show Minutes: 12/3/07

This is something I though I would throw up every week for those people who have more of a life than I do, and can't listen to the hour long Bill Polian Show on Hank FM/WIBC or on the Colt's website.  This just lists the Questions and Answers Bill gets and gives and other major points he makes at Bob Lamey's prodding.  Take a look and discuss.

He says two or three really positive things that every Colts fan will want to hear, so it is worth perusing.  I've notated the time each point is made or question is asked to allow you to double check my work if you don't believe that is what he said.

Star-divide

2:15
Bob asks why not 1st and 25 on Jacksonville's penalty.
Bill says because it's a post-action foul and not a continuous action foul, therefore the penalty is assessed after the outcome of the play has been decided.

3:55
Bill likes the  possibility of three-AFC South team Playoffs

6:00
Bill discusses playoff rule - says you can't play a team from your same division in the first round.  Doesn't know if it's waived if both WCs are from the same division as the one of the champions.

7:00
Bill says Raheem Brock has Rib injury and his deadline to be back is up in the air.

8:45
1st Question: What was with Crap being inactive?
Bill:  He needed to be taken off 45-man to shore up the O-line, so they only went with 3 WRs.  Says him and Tony use a Ouiji board to divine injury status(jokingly of course).

*11:20*
2nd Q:  When is Bob Sanders contract up and when will you renegotiate?
Bill: Next year and "he'll be here next season, so don't worry about that."

11:54
3rd Q: 1. Ryan Diem's Status? 2. Who is #80? 3. Does Lucas Oil Stadium incorporate good acoustics for crowd noise?
Bill:  1. Ryan has a "balky knee", and is getting better.  Trouble with stance.  2. #80 is Devin Aromashodu from Auburn (can return kickoffs too). Cut him in TC b/c injury and couldn't be resigned till 8th game.  3. LOS has no consideration for crowd noise, but instead crowd comfort, 2 sport playability, and the retractable roof. Won't know how the crowd noise will sound until we are there with 62,000 fans.

17:04
4th Q: Do Colts fans really help other teams' player's get up?
Bill:  Duh, are you retarded, they're grown men.(Not really, he says they are professional and it is commonplace in the league).

19:13
5th Q: Asks about the rehab status of starters on IR.
Bill:  McFarland to get assessment soon, Freeney is feeling fine, Rob is moving along just fine.  Look to be in good shape.  Freeney has had surgery and is rehabbed.

20:30
6th Q: Same Question Bob asked at the beginning of the show, with the same answer

21:25
7th Q:  Crazy guy asks how "No. 82" is doing, if the JAX players were "tippy" b/c of crowd noise, and remarked that "Tony is doing pretty good with these challenges, he better keep doing this"
Bill:  (Restraining a laugh, and maybe a couple of curses)Marvin(#88) is good, worked out today, hope he'll be in practice and conditioning.  He's close to playing.  2. Crowd noise was good, all procedural penalties were on outside players (Ts and WRs) that couldn't be thrown off by fake cadence.  3. Tony had clear view of the play, and that game had more cameras than some other games, which helped.  If you get 2 challenges right, you get a third.  Refs now letting replay decide plays.  Calls that "unfortunate".  Despite popular opinion, Colleges don't handle it quicker and they have more intrusion from "the eye in the sky".  Replay is supposed to right an obvious wrong, i.e. fumble or touchdown.  Not small moves in ball spot.

27:15
Bethea's interception called the "Quick Change of the Game".  Gary Brackett is having a Pro-Bowl season.  Addai made a great play at end with conversion.  6/6 on 3rd-and-1, 5 with passes.

29:06
8th Q:  Some brown nosing then comments about the Sean Taylor moment of silence.  Then asks about the pass-out policy on tickets.  Asks why that penalty wasn't First and Goal.
Bill: The no pass-out rule has always been in effect, and is league-wide.  Repeats his stance on the penalty.

31:50
9th Q:  Asks how people felt about Manning's low tackle of Nelson
Bill:  He couldn't get help and had to make the play himself.  Glad he was OK.  He could have just thrown it away and kicked the FG.  Or looked off Nelson with his eyes and scored.

33:26
10th Q: Feels good about the team despite the injuries, says Bob Lamey is the best, then asks about the pass interference on Speedy, and about changing to no challenge on ball spots, getting rid of the force out rule, and removing the rule that affected the penalty mentioned too many times already
Bill: Competition Committee is almost always unanimous or 7-1.  Jack Del Rio is on the CC(???).  Agrees that ball spot rule should be really judicious.  Camera angles can fool you.  Talks about Joseph Addai conversion in SD, and the "eye in the sky" changing the spot. Can't get rid of the rule though.  Competition Committee will discuss force out rule.  Would affect a lot of plays and cause DBs to make big hits on sideline throws.  Says call was right in ARI vs. CLE.  Other rule will stay put.

39:23
Bill will watch the MNF game to see how the Ravens look.  Isn't surprised by Baltimore's record because of line and QB issues, and the loss of Adalius Thomas.  Says we have had similar situation, but our QB has guided us through it with better results.

He's wrong about the playoff rule
Two years ago, Pittsburgh won at Cincinnati in the "What if Palmer wasn't hurt on the second play of the game?" game.

Three years ago, the Vikings won at Green Bay, where Randy Moss "mooned" the crowd.

Last year, the Giants played at Philadelphia, but 3 teams from the East made the playoffs.

This shouldn't be confused with baseball, where two teams from the same division cannot play each other in the Division Series.

exactly
the rule changed when the NFL realigned a few years back.

Polian should have known that.

umm...
I thought the important thing to take out of the show was twofold:  1) Bob Sanders will be here next season and 2) Dwight Freeney has had his surgery and is already rehabbed.

That sounds very promising for next season, with a possible run at a third consecutive title.(Wouldn't that thought make Tom Brady soil his panties?).
