Colts win 44-20

This was a laugher from the beginning, and a fitting beatdown to a classless organization like the Baltimore Ravens. No disrespect to Rexx at Baltimore Beatdown, because he does a great job covering his team, but Billick and the Ravens just deserve smackdowns like this. Did you see their classless scoreboard which reads Indy 44-Ravens 20? They simply refuse to call the Colts the Indianapolis Colts.

Dear Baltimore, get. over. it. already.

NBC should take note because no one except dumb ass loser Baltimore fans cares about the 1984 move. That silly sports writer interviewed in 1984 calling Irsay's move a "sin" was hilarious! It's a sports team, you idiot. Sports teams move. Just ask Cleveland fans. I wonder if said Baltimore sport writing idiot called Modell's move from Cleveland a "sin?"

In short, the Colts dominated the Ravens (again) from start to finish. Peyton Manning was phenomenal and Gonzo got his first NFL TD! Great game by the rookie. With Pittsburgh playing horribly in New England, the Colts are in the driver's seat to lock up the #2 seed in the AFC. Not bad for a team left for dead.

Full recap later. 11-2 and not even peaking. Go Indianapolis Colts!

Peaking
The Colts have the Raiders next, followed by the Texans and Titans. Not a playoff team among them, and I expect a similar result against Oakland. Houston and Tennessee will play hard, but I can see key starters like Sanders resting in the second half. With a little luck, we can cruise into the playoffs with a first round bye, and await whoever is unlucky enough to have to come into the Dome for maybe it's last game ever.

Man
This game was over way too soon. I almost slept in the second half. I woke up when the rookie QB hit the field for Baltimore.

Enjoy a great win...
...over a bad team playing w/o both starting cornerbacks. You see what they meant to the team last week when they held the Pats in check most of the game, but between the Ravens injuries and facing one of the best QB's of all time, my Ravens had no chance. We played like the embarrassment we've been all season, after expecting a hell of a lot more since we went 13-3 last season (and lost once again to you guys!). For perhaps the first time in my life as a fan, I actually left a halftime along with over 50% of the stadium, to get out of the miserable rain and try to get a decent night's sleep.

However, stop with the putdowns on the Ravens ownership and fans. Most of us are over the Colts' move and hate to be reminded of it by the national media. Not putting the Colts name on the scoreboar is just having a little fun, just like all Baltimore fans do during the national anthem by yelling "O" at the end of the song (for Orioles- yes another joke of a team). However, don't ever try to compare what Modell did with the Browns to what Irsay did to the Colts, as even the "great" Jimmy Irsay couldn't carry Modell's soiled diapers!

Jim Irsay...
you mean the guy that hired Bill Polian and Tony Dungy? The guy who's team makes it to the playoffs 6 seasons in a row, wins their division 5 of them and a superbowl? A guy who's team doesn't melt down into undisciplined rabble on the field when their performance doesn't match their super-inflated egos?

And you're talking about the Modell that when he took over his team he one a championship with the team in place--one thta had already won about 7 of them, and then due to his mismanagement didn't do jack shit for the next 30 years? That Modell? The Modell that then took his franchise--understandable that nobody in Cleveland wanted to attend games after a drought lasting half an average lifespan for most of the world, and then in Baltimore his team won their division twice in 10 years. One Superbowl in 45 years isn't much to show for.

Yeah, Jim Irsay is horrible by comparison. I heard that when Modell left for Baltimore he has been afraid for his life to go back there.

Potato, potahto
You say "most of us are over the Colts' move," but there are some very vocal Ravens fans who obviously didn't get the memo. Maybe not referring to the Indianapolis Colts as the Colts on the scoreboard is just "having a little fun" in your mind, in my mind it's a classless bit of pettiness.

And what about the signs in the stands? My favorite was the one that read: "We Hate U" with a horseshoe for the "U." Yeah, really looks like most people are over it. I congratulate you for having the maturity to move on, clearly many of your brethren lack it.

-2 corners
Being without your starting corners wouldn't have had a big difference in the final score.  Ravens only had one drive in the first half that didn't end in a turnover giving the colts great field position (twice in the red zone).  A couple of those touchdowns might have been field goals, but then again we wouldn't have pulled our starters in the 3rd quarter.

Before I attack you let me just add that I have read your blog over the past few months. I enjoy your work and I enjoy the city of Baltimore.

With that said, let me just say that putting "Indy" on the scoreboard instead of "Colts" is not just "having some fun" as you put it, because it is small minded and piety. If Ravens fans have indeed moved on from the move then why would they put that up on the scoreboard? To me that just shows how backward looking your franchise is.

Oh and I am tired of the excuse of your two corners being out. The Colts defense is based upon rushing the passer and we lost Freeney for the year. What we do is have other guys step up like Robert Mathis and Keyunta Dawson. You see that is what Championship teams do, they have guys that step up when other guys get hurt. If you can't run your defense without your two aging corners then your defense SUCKS!

Let me also add that the Ravens need a lot of personal help. This is not meant as an insult, but as an observation. On offense you have...

  1. An overpaid and under performing running back in Willis McGahee.
  2. Zero QB play.
  3. An average O-line
  4. Total lack of speed at the WR position.
On defense your problems are also just as great...
  1. Ray Lewis is not the same player. Its time to start thinking about moving on.
  2. The system you guys run is laughable. The 4-6 defense? It's not 1986 anymore.
If I ran the Ravens I would really blow that team up and get all of the cancer guys like Ray Lewis, Chris McAllister and Bart Scott out of there and replace them with some younger and hungrier guys. I would also fire the coaching staff and implement new offensive and defensive strategies.

Puh-lease
Thanks for the nice comments about my blog. However, the Ravens fans do not run the scoreboard and to get upset over the Indy name as opposed to the Colts is as petty as the whole issue. Most of us , other than the old folks, are truly over the move. However, why not get the media to stop bringing it up, as well as both cities sportswriters, who seem to have nothing better to do than start up w/ each other. This team won a World Championship only 7 years ago, which is better than most teams. Ray Lewis may be older, but there's not another middle linebacker in the league I'd want leading my defense. The Ravens need a complete overhaul, and major changes and new faces. Hopefully Ozzie Newsome will work his magic in the off season. This team has made a great anem for its wonderful defense over the past few years, but unfortunately has fallen on hard times. Remember when you guys were there? The Ravens will be back and maybe one day we'll even beat your Colts...er I mean Indy! Good luck against the Pats.

Wow
What we had last night was simply two teams going in opposite directions this season.  I was very impressed by the Colts' play, and I am as excited as I've ever been for the postseason.  You could see the spark in the 2nd half of the Falcons game (getting a bit more continuity on the O line and getting some speed back in the WR core), and it is just building from there.  We are getting focused and are poised to make a deep postseason run.  Just think, if we are playing this well at the end of the season, then get Brock and Marvin back for the playoffs - what an emotional boost that will provide.  All the while, we are going completely unnoticed b/c of the Pats run at a perfect REGULAR season.  This is going to be great.

Oh yeah
And did everyone notice Brackett's hula dance after his interceptions?  Pro Bowl bound baby.

I think the best part about last night was the fact that Manning threw ZERO interceptions and the offensive line gave up ZERO sacks.  Things seem to be improving.
Go Colts!

With regards to bitterness....
I have to say, as a Colts fan who lived (from 2002-2006) in the Baltimore area for 4 years, I never had a bad experience with a truly bitter Ravens fan.  They were all pretty fun about the whole thing.  It might have been different had I gone to a game all decked out in Colts gear because the fans I encountered were either friends, or reasonably sober ;)

We quickly forget about all that "Colts to LA" talk just a couple years ago.  It may have been an empty threat to get a new stadium, but what if the city called his bluff?  I know I got all worked up about it, and would have been pretty bitter (maybe not for 20+ years), especially since I doubt the league would have stepped up and given us a new team.

I too think Jim Irsay is a great owner, but had the city not agreed to pony up a new stadium....my opinion might be much different.
