Will Indianapolis host the Super Bowl in 2011?

I've purposely avoided discussing this topic because, like many Indianapolis residents, I did not think there was a chance in hell that Indy would host a Super Bowl. However, with the information coming out the last few days, the possibility of Indy hosting the big game is transforming from wild, wet dream fantasy into potential reality.

Today, delegates representing the cities of the three finalist cities for the 2011 Super Bowl will meet with the NFL owners to pitch why their city is best suited for the 2011 Super Bowl. The finalist cities are Phoenix, Dallas, and Indianapolis. For Dallas, NFL legend and former-Cowboys QB Roger Staubach will led a delegation to sway the owners to have the game in Dallas. For Indianapolis, Tony Dungy will make his case. Obviously, as a resident of Indianapolis, I am biased here. However, if I resided in Chicago, Cincy, Cleveland, Springfield, Louisville, St. Louis, or Peoria, I don't think my opinion on this matter would alter all that much:

It is absolutely vital that the NFL pick Indianapolis because the NFL needs to hold a Super Bowl in the Midwest.

Hopefully, the NFL owners will see the value in having the greatest championship event in America held in America's heartland. The fact that Indy's new Lucas Oil Stadium (The Lube) will have a re-tractable roof and temperature controls allows the possibility for snow and weather to have an affect on the game, just like rain did last year. The decision on the 2011 Super Bowl location is today at 2pm Eastern. Stay tuned.

Nope
Dallas got it. Like they needed more exposure.

Dallas.
Cack.

I'm inclined to think it's primarily a weather thing. The NFL should just put out an advisory to teams above a certain latitude to the effect that they need not waste money putting together Super Bowl bids.

Not true
If you build a dome you'll get it. See Detroit.

But clearly teams in the southern half of the US get the vast majority of the superbowls.

you don't make sense
as Detroit has hosted it twice along with Minnesota once.

Dallas go it because Jerry Jones just built a billion dollar stadium that makes the RCA Dome look like an ash try.

ooh, you're right!
3 whole Super Bowls out of 41 have been held above the Mason-Dixon line. That obviously means that every city has an equal chance, and that Dallas got it because they're better than everbody else.

Well you know...
they tend to choose locations where the home team doesn't seem to have much of a chance to play in the big game.

New Orleans, Miami, Detroit... now Dallas.

Just sayin'... :)

Go Colts!

More seats
From what I read it came down to the fact that the new Dallas Stadium can hold 27,000 more people than our Oil Stadium can (still can't believe such a hick company became our sponsor)

Seats and suites
I think the Dallas pitch lasted only 30 seconds. Something like, "Dallas is a really nice city. Oh, and our new stadium will seat 100,000."

Cornrows
We lost the SB bid and we lost the first round pick for the Pacers yesterday. May 22nd, dark day for Indy.

you're the SB Champs for crying out loud!
I'm not feeling too much pity for you guys right now.

And you shouldn't.
"North Texas" just won the Super Bowl and your QB is the best to ever play the game... oh wait, that's us.

You get to "host" a Super Bowl and your QB sucks :)

which is why he kicked your ass
last November. Or maybe you're selctive memory forgot that fact.

Hmm
Kicked our ass?  No... but you did win.  I'm sure from now on whenever they talk about the 2007 World Champions they'll put a "*" by our name and denote the fact that we lost a game to the Cowboys in the regular season.

well I can tell you
that I certainly wouldn't be proud as a fan of winning a SB if my team got beat by a sucking qb thats for sure. Although we both know that didn't happen. ;)
