Corey Simon is on the Colts roster
|

Have you seen this man? His name is Corey, and at one time he was the starting defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts. He was really good for the Colts. While the stats didn't reflect this, it was no coincidence that his arrival helped shore up a historically porous run defense. Guys like Montae Reagor and Larry Tripplett had career years in 2005 because Corey would command a double team. Since 2005, Corey has been missing. We all know the story (mystery injury during training camp turned into a mystery illness that cost Corey his 2006, pissed off Colts management, and resulted in a grievance filed by Corey against the Colts).
Since training camp in 2006, we haven't seen Corey... until a few days ago. For some reason, Corey's name appeared on the 2007 active roster for the Colts. We're not sure why his name is there seeing as no one has actually seen the man in several months. We've heard rumors that his conditioning is bad, that he doesn't want to play football anymore, and that Bill Polian thinks he was the biggest free agent mistake in Colts history.
Despite all these rumors, there's Corey's name and number on the active roster:

Now, I don't understand why the Colts organization feels the need to torture me in this way. I spent most of the 2006 season blogging about Corey Simon. When will he be back? What's wrong with him? Does he hate the Colts? Will he ever play football again? I even considered changing the site name to "Corey's Corral" I was talking about him so much (ok, kidding there). And just when I thought it was obvious Corey was gone, toast, hasta-lasagna-don't-get-any-on-ya, low and behold his name appears on the 2007 roster. Excuse me for a moment:
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
There. I've let it out. I can now return to my obsessive little world where I wonder, hope, and pray that a healthy Corey Simon will return to the Colts defensive line, paired with Booger McFarland to make the best tackle tandem in football.
Yes, I can dream.

First of all...

Yup, the type of character guy you want on your team, huh Blue? Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.

Get as sick as you want
And, if I recall the discussion about Moss was how the Colts were now the holier than thou franchise. Corey Simon by Blue's account is the type of player that fits the mold of being "bad".

Just be factual
For example, Blue states an opinion that McFarland and Simon would be an awesome tackle tandem. Your response is that Blue has been hitting the bong. That may be cute, but it doesn't support your point of view at all. I happen to agree with Blue. Why am I wrong? I don't know from your comment, I only know that you disagree. I am left to assume that it's because you are a biased Pats fan. I could just as easily say, "Brady is the most overrated QB of all time." But my saying it doesn't make it so.
As for misrepresentation, I think your characterization of Blue's Moss post fits the bill. I went back and re-read it to be sure; I don't see how it says that the Colts are "holier than thou." It seems to me that he was simply complaining about the Patriots assuming that mantle in the past. In fact, Blue specifically mentions that he doesn't think the Colts are stocked with angels (and refers to his earlier post calling out Dungy). I would add that with Rhodes and the Reids, it has not been a model offseason for the World Champions. However, neither I nor Blue nor any poster I've seen on this site claimed that it was. Pats fans and players (I can't say about you specifically because I simply don't know) have indeed played the "holier than thou" card often in the past. And the Pats doing everything better than every other professional sports team has certainly been a recurring theme in the national sports media in recent years. Just because Blue wrote a post shooting holes in this kind of sanctimony doesn't mean that Blue is commandeering the same kind of piffle for the Colts.
This is already longer than I'd intended, but when I get going it's hard to stop. My basic point is that the reason you've been attacked is because your most recent posts read like a homer who automatically gainsays anything that is either negative about the Pats or positive about the Colts. Which is not even to say that you're necessarily wrong (and I really do enjoy opposing views). But you're not going to convince many people of the validity of your arguments if you insult posters and misrepresent their opinions.

Awww, don't mind him ...
Pats fans seem to have nothing better to do than heckle fans from teams they dislike ... You think I waste one second of my life on any Patriots blog?

In addition
Simon was "kicked off" the Eagles and last year the Colts. Just pointing out inconsistencies in the "logic" that flows around here. Kind of reminds me of when someone knows they have no answer in a disagreement and are proven wrong. The response is always, "shut up, get out of here...since I have no rebuttal".

Also, let's keep it civil, man. Corey drives us Colts fans crazy because we a) Don't know what's wrong with him, and b) We don't know if he'll ever play.
With Randy Moss, the issues are attitude, dedication, and a committment to the team. No such questions surround Corey, and last I checked Corey has never tried to run over a policeman with his car.
I did keep it civil
I just find it amusing that others "welcome differing viewpoints", but when you offer the other point of view that maybe people do not like, they get flustered and think that you are being unruly.

What I wonder....
It's my personal opinion that the 3-Superbowl team was built before brady arrived and that he is a good enough quarterback to step in and manage it through. Nice job by Tom. But now he has these excellent receivers--Randy Moss is statistically, through the first nine years, second only in stats to Jerry Rice. If the Patriots tank it, will people blame it on Brady or on Moss?
This year isn't about the Colts repeating--it's about the Patriots. This year the dynasty lives or dies. This year either Brady moves into fame or obscurity--because his rings came too soon in his career, frankly. He's going to play 16 or 17 years which means he's got a lot of years left to throw mediocre seasons and bury himself in the ranks of the "good".
We all know Manning, even without a ring, will be in the Hall because of his stats. But Brady is going to need more than stats over the next 10 years of his career.
So while you are over on our site bullying us, I'm waiting to see if the Patriots and their hero are going to sink or swim.
The Colts will be their usual selves. They are better this year than last, but we have to see where the heart of the players is when the season starts. The defense the Colts run requires more heart and effort than it does outstanding individual talent. The players the Colts use are barely in the NFL so they play with lots of heart to stay there--which is why the Junes, Doss's, Davids and such do well in Indy.
Anyway, never fear about the Colts. Worry about your own smorgashboard of talent.

Colts vs Pats
The salary cap era in the NFL has supposedly become a level playing surface defined by parity. I believe this to be true except for the rare exception. Colts fans know that we are one exception to this, but what we need to realize is that the Pats are as well.
The Patriots were indeed fortunate in finding a future Hall of Fame quarterback (arguing he's not is simply homerism by Colts fans) in the sixth round of the draft. The Patriots were a more complete team during the first few years of Brady's emergence simply because they did not have a monumental quarterback contract on their books. This past season they've realized that having an All-Pro quarterback is not enough without the proper weapons for the QB to utilize. This is different from the Colts who have always given Peyton everything he has needed to succeed.
The Brady-Manning argument has been defined by Superbowls vs Stats. This past season, Peyton showed he can win a Superbowl once he has a defense. If Brady wants to continue to rival Peyton, he needs to put up big numbers with the many weapons he's been given while also making his offence one of the best in the league.

Not freaking
As for who's replacing June: probably Keiaho. June was undoubtedly a nice player, but he's a product of the system. He had a Pro Bowl season two years ago, but fell off markedly last year -- particularly in run defense. If you watch the video of the Jacksonville debacle, you see June whiffing on tackle after tackle. Now I'm not trying to say that he sucks, and I think he'll have success in Tampa because they run the same system that he has thrived in (unlike, say, Nick Harper going to Tennessee). And given my choice, I'd rather have him on the roster. But losing him is not the end of the world, and he's certainly not irreplaceable. If Keiaho is as good as the coaches believe, we may not miss June.
And finally, I like our DT situation much better going into this year. Booger McFarland may not be Warren Sapp, but he had a significant positive impact on the Colts D, and now we have him for the whole season. Drafting Pitcock out of OSU is a good move as well, again the type of player that fits our Cover 2 perfectly (especially in getting up the field and pressuring the QB). Add these guys into the mix, and I think we'll have a solid line that can take a lot of pressure off the LBs and DBs.
Dungy knows what he's doing; he knows the Cover 2 as well as anyone. Many of our defensive standouts over the years were not "can't miss" prospects, but were integrated efficiently into our system (June, Bethea, Mathis, etc. etc.) I don't see why this year should be any different.
Sounds well...
Funny thing is, the Colts have NEVER had a "shutdown" cornerback, or whatever. But they also never suffer huge passing assaults, like they did running attacks last year.
It's a system defense. The Colts will start players at corner that were in the Superbowl. There won't be a problem. The linebackers have improved without June. Freddy wil start there and he is quicker and less timid.
The Colts had Jason David and Nick Harper last year for starters. Even though the Colts lost both starters, neither of those guys is a starter on another team. The players the Colts have in the offing are better. This defense doesn't require stand-out players.
